Imo the story was very interesting and it was nice to see how Hisoka became the person who we know today.
Howevery drawings looks like first unedited sketch of manga. I mean it had it's own climat and it was kinda fun in some moments but it's a pity it wasn't a bit better :p
I wonder what happened to Abaki after Hisoka's left

Absolute garbage story telling, but at this point, expecting something different from Ishida is a mistake.

I thought it was pretty awful and such a waste of potential. The art was horrible, too.

I didn't think the one-shot was anything particularly amazing either, but I thought it was safe as far as not going too far back into Hisoka's past(since that would remove the charm from his character). The one-shot was also only a storyboard, so I can excuse the art to some extent. Just seemed like a one of the many adventures Hisoka's experienced in his mysterious life which is something HxH fans don't see...

Well Togashi himself said that he loved the one shot and he found it very interesting

It's a storyboard and a very detailed one at that. If you didn't know, they usually look like this

I guess it was pretty nice to get something of Hisoka's past escapades, and I actually liked the way Ishida set it up not necessarily as a backstory, but more of a "day in the life of a budding psychopath" XD

Nothing there that I didn't expect not at all surprising that Hisoka was basically a self taught nen prodigy since it'd be pretty outlandish for anyone but Togashi to give any massive details about his past, but it was interesting nonetheless.
Though, now my question is...can this be considered canon??

Even with Togashi giving Ishida his blessing, I personally can't view it as being canonical...it just felt like part of Hisoka's personality was missing. I dunno, Hisoka is only Hisoka when Togashi works his magic...but maybe that's just me!

Although after the Togashi + Ishida interview, I'm kinda hoping Togashi is inspired to include little elements of Hisoka's past in the main HxH storyline...probably a pipe dream, but a girl can dream!! Not wanting too much revealed though, since it might kill the enigmatic vibe he's got going on

^ Totally agree. A day in the life is a good way to put it. I've always been very hesitant about seeing Hisoka's past touched on. He's a mysterious character and you can do more harm than good if you're not careful. Thankfully Ishida didn't take it too far. So I enjoyed it overall. But I probably won't think about it much either.

too bad he'll kill him in the main manga.. that's why they made this story , as a 'goodbuy' moment of the character

It was great.
Hisoka's past is still mysterious.
Moritonio probably saw Ging.

It remind me of the start of the mangas.

I still think they're equals. Chrollo just had months of preps

I agree with this one. I consider them equals. Chrollo just had his advantage because he has been preparing for this til he's convinced that he has 100% chance of winning and has set the battle field to his advantage. I do think that when it comes to hand-to-hand combat, Hisoka has the upper hand. Though I got to admit that Chrollo is admirable and remains consistent to his character as a thief trying as much as possible to gain without losing. And so he relies on his abilities where he would not get close to Hisoka unless he is sure that Hisoka will miss him.

I enjoy their battle. I can't even predict who will come out victorious out of this match.
That feeling when you feel you know the feeling of not feeling any feel at all. Get the feeling?

On topic:

I enjoy the one shot of Hisoka's origin. They included his fondness of his favorite bubble gum--the bungee gum(which is canon). I like how they displayed him as someone talented, vigilant and capable to analyze situations quickly which is so like him <3

Absolutely horrendously drawn. The story wasn't too bad, and it did show how Hisoka got some of his moves. No huge revelations though. Take it or leave it.
