DNA tests have confirmed that three man-eating Nile crocodiles have been found living in Florida's swamps.

Unlike local alligators, the species preys on humans and is thought to be responsible for up to 200 deaths a year at home in sub-Saharan Africa.

It is possible more of the beasts are at large in the state, experts say.

It is not known for certain how they reached the US. "They didn't swim from Africa," said University of Florida herpetologist Kenneth Krysko.

One likely possibility was that they were brought in illegally by unlicensed collectors, who then failed to keep them secured or intentionally released them, Mr Krysko told the Associated Press news
agency.

It doesn't help that they will spread to the rest of the south eventually just like those huge pythons found in the electrical box.

That flight was hijacked by a crocodile. That is how it got to Florida.

The crocodile was just looking for a new start and equal opportunity so he could send money back for his family.

That's Florida for you!
It could be hmm...what if the crocodile has been under some airplane, imagine the small airplan that land on a small, a reaally small airport, one from these which does resemble brushy sward more that a real airport; the is a river near by, and the crocodile is by some coincidence there, the pilot goes to -who cares about that whatever, and while the pilot is absent the curious crocodile draw near, using his sharp nails to attach inself to the plain...and... and...
yeah i'm aware of the idiocity of my comment.

"Prey on humans".... you mean the reptile with basically indeterminate growth, a bite force strong enough to crush femurs, can swim and run on land would see our slow fleshy asses as food? Well I'll be a son of a bitch, no way. /sarcasm...Why does that tidbit need to be included in an article? Do these people not realize that a human without tools is really nothing special in the animal world? Like, even with our tools, most predators wouldn't know what they're looking at and would still be capable of attacking, killing, and eating us.

Probably some dumbass importing the eggs/hatchlings then releasing the animals in the wild when they grew too big to take care off.

All it takes is one nerd purchasing an invasive species online to disrupt an entire ecosystem.

lots of people in florida think it's wise to either own and operate 'exotic pet' attractions, or own those types of wild animals as pets. either way is a breeding ground for the aforementoned animals, particularly snakes (pythons specifically), which florida clearly has problems with. wouldnt surprise me if this is why there are now crocs showing up there too. gators already live in the glades, add crocs to the mix and it's just more craziness.

The release of these modern exotic animals into America's ecosystems are the real illegal immigrants--if the word was meant towards animals.

The state should declare open hunting season on those crocs!

Isn't it legal to own guns in Florida? Let's get moving! They should design croc-piercing ammo for use in Florida.
