Options to hide hentai or ecchi or individual manually selected titles from being displayed to other users on anime and manga list.
| Similar requests have been made before where people wanted to have a separate list section for hentai and have that hidden and I recall it being rejected but I think with how the lists are updated now it should be quite possible to do something better than past suggestions and make it so the list could be capable of hiding titles from displaying in the list at all based on if it is hentai, ecchi or manually selected specific series a user doesnt wish others to see. This would be controlled by account settings. This way users who want to show others their lists but dont want people to know their preferences for kinks or something that may get them harassed they can do so. This will also help stop people from making alt accounts since some handle hentai on a separate account. The privacy settings should be similar to the general list privacy settings since maybe some users only want to hide these things from users not in their friend list and some would hide it even from people in their friend list. |

| What complicates this is that "obvious" hentai is not always marked as hentai. For instance, this manga is marked as ecchi even though it has an elaborate sex scene in virtually every chapter. Just because the magazine it was serialized in isn't considered hentai-oriented or something. But obviously most people will read it for the same reasons they read hentai, so if I were to hide hentai I would want to hide this title too. |

I imagine using only certain tags would be less entailed since that's already worked into the site elsewhere. |

Not that I am aware of. I was told it was being worked on where any entry can be hidden but not heard any progress. Maybe it really isnt even being worked on. |

I wonder why. Was it too hard to pull off or were the people that were working on it no long around or did they shift priorities at the time? I still think this would be a good feature to have. |
| Lol, 3 yrs later and I've also made a similar request. People always brush it off as "well if you're embarrassed by it don't put it on your list" or "Make a second account if you don't want your hentai on your main" and I just feel that goes against the spirit of myanimelist which is having a list of all of your shows and tracking your progress. Besides, why is it actively encouraged to do tedious things like making and maintaining a second account? Sure I understand not all titles fit nicely into the hentai or ecchi category and maybe there would need to be ideas for how to deal with those. But it shouldn't have been that hard over 3 years to implement privating those tags based on user preference or profile page setting.... Not sure why MAL seems so against it. |

| @Aka_Saber Making secondary account is against the rules too. Yes, MAL currently has not just "hentai" and "ecchi" but also an "erotica" tag too which kind of overly complicates having to select all these different options so I could go with the version of just having users make any individual entry have it's own privacy setting different from the default. If that's too complicated for devs to pull off then just hiding it in general from everyone but the logged in user with some sort of indicator to remind them it's not set visible to others I suppose is a fine compromise. I guess there is some entries other than ecchi, hentai and "erotica" that some users may want to hide but im not really sure what that would be exactly personally. |
