Quite a good start. The staff seems to be the same as in previous OVAs. Mediocre CG though.

I quite enjoyed it. I haven't seen/don't know anything about the original or any OVAs but I think i'm going to enjoy this series from the first episode. Cobra seems pretty amusing.

Cobra is such a fun series, I'm excited for this show.
It's a bummer Cobra's original TV series voiceactor isn't voicing him in this show, but Uchida Naoya sounds like he is going to be great in the role.

The guy is over 70. He's still got the swagger but it was starting to get seriously creepy when he hit on the girls when he did the voices for the OVAs.

Cobra's new VA has the voice matched a lot closer to the way cobra sounded originally.

pretty good story, dude gets his christmas wish, but ends up fighting an organization of pirates and now has to escort her to a comet/planet; also he has a gun for a left arm

So this lame pile of crap gets better if you've seen the original? Like the lame fight scene and cheesy dialogues will magically get better right? LOOL somehow I doubt it. Ya you're right, I haven't seen the original so I am not gonna judge, but that doesn't change the fact that I see this current series as a failure. I am glad it smells like chocolate ice cream to you, but to me it's like donkey shit, I hope you take your time and enjoy the rest of it.

don't forget this cheese is made from breastmilk of gals in ecchi anime ;]

On a more serious note, it's supposed to be cheesy. Not to mention than most of the dialogue in nowadays anime is crap anyway. And it's retro on purpose too.

Decent first ep. I personally like this style of animation, as it keeps the feel of the original material. I did prefer Cobras VA from the OVAs though (haven't seen original)...

It may be cheesy, but its GOOD CHEESE!

Nothing feels right. They are just everywhere, sure. It's way too predictable. The story seems bad, and inconclusive.

Secret's partner died, but she doesn't care. Cobra doesn't know nothing, but he doesn't care. We don't know what the pirates are after, but we aren't supposed to care. What kind of shit is this? Seriously, the only series where the bad guys are just treated like 'well they just are bad, don't you see how evil they look? don't question it!' are the ones for children. And I mean the REALLY young ones. Also, the art reminds me of superman shit.
Also, random information were thrown in. I don't think they are _that_ important for story progression, so throwing them in now to solve them later was meaningless and unnecessary. And I really had to laugh when Blackborn escaped. I mean it was soooo run of the mill. Bad guy flies away and laughs his ass off in a creepy way.

And why did Secret get naked before she jumped out of the plane anyway?

Worst first episode since the last two seasons.

The are just everywhere - theres plenty of recent series which are much worse in pace like that, for example, fma brotherhood.
Its way too predictable - generally, all old manga are, because the newer ones have stolen their ideas.
The story seems bad, and inconclusive - Like above, newer ones have stolen and added to it. Can't see how you can tell its inconclusive after 1 ep.

Secrets partner died - I'm guessing he was a more of a bodyguard.
Cobra doesn't know/care - thats just his personality.
We don't know what they are after - that comes later, obviously.
What kind of shit is this? - better shit then half the anime on your list.
'well they just are bad' - original and ovas expand on this.
Superman shit - that was obvious from all promos etc. If you wanted 'new' art, this obviously isn't the anime for you, and you should never of even tried it.

Random information - not exactly sure what part, but it was likely to enhance dramatic effect or add humour.
Escape - most older mangas/animes have that. Deal with it.

Naked - fan service. And, if you didn't know, coats etc don't work too well when sky diving.

Worst ep of last 2 seasons? - keep dreaming. It wouldn't even be in the worst 15. You obviously don't watch too many animes... My worst would undoubtedly go to Sasameki Koto, but thats another story.

Seemed alittle old and boring which is inevitable but I liked it. 4 out of 5: Liked it (your vote)

I liked the feeling of the episode, it reminds me of Lupin the 3rd.

I have no idea why i like this anime so much. Maybe its becuase it doesn't have a Japanese feel to it other than the speech. Other than that i would have loved for this anime to have came out during my childhood =)

Hmmm... that was quite the retro overdose... but fun in its own way. The first episode of Cobra the Animation felt a lot like doing "Lupin III in Space". What we have here is a remake of a very early 80s sci-fi action series that captures the spirit of those times very well.

It also nearly captures the look of the times too - it's almost too bad that they had to put in that 3DCG - the rest of the animation looked so much like something from the 80s that it was scary.

This is a very traditional macho action series with a goofy but ultra-competent hero who happens to be somewhat cyborgized, plenty of barely-dressed babes (many of whom are rather deadly themselves), tough monsters, lots of things that get blown up, plenty of blood, and tons of really dumb jokes.

BTW – this will likely confuse younger viewers, but, at least as far as the first episode goes, all of the nearly naked women in the show are obviously grown up Women, and not little girls. Yes, Kiddies, at one time anime used Women in sexual situations, and not children – scary, no? That's why many of us Old Farts like Retro. <LOL>

The dialog is deliberately corny as hell and quite hilarious for it. The BGM is straight out of the 80s. Come to think of it, even the background designs are straight out of the early 80s – when is the last time you saw a disco ball in a modern anime?

It isn't likely to rival Mazinger Z as far as remakes go, but I do have to say that "Co-bra" surpasses the likes of the other Winter 2010 anime so far like "Chu-Bra" by light years.

This is a refreshing change from the typical anime fare, as long as you don't take it any more seriously than an old James Bond movie, anyway.

Considering that airing of this anime has been postponed many times... lazy people work in this studio, very lazy.

It amazes me how few people catch on to something that is self-satirizing.

If you take this thing seriously and criticize it on that basis, it's like getting offended from watching the Colbert Report because you think he's serious. (Interestingly enough, a lot of people DID take the Colbert Report seriously when it first aired). It's fine if you don't like satire, but don't dislike it because you think it's trying to run a serious plot of ANY kind.

Actually, not to defend the studio or anything, but the delay had to do with broadcast scheduling and funding, not production.
In fact episodes 1-7 are all basically finished which is unheard of for TV anime... i.e. they had finished a lot of them and then the broadcast got postponed.
The delays weren't because the animators were lazy (although that might still be true :) )

Hello Quarkboy, i want to ask you some questions .
how many episodes will this series ? ( 12 or 13 )
Osamu Dezaki no longer part of the project. He would make cobra rokunin yushi for the month of July 2009 but it was postponed.
I wonder why Osamu Dezaki no longer part of the staff . (though his big brother satoshi is president of the studio magic bus )
Otherwise, you say they have episodes in advance. It's funny because the cobra series rokunin no yushi scheduled for summer 2009 has nothing to do with this series. In fact, in cobra rokunin Yushi ( six heroes ) , it tells a different story which was spread over 13 episodes. While the cobra the animation tv series offers 6 different stories. ( golden gate, galaxy nights...)
I thought they abandoned the project cobra rokunin no yushi towards the end of
May 2009 and they immediately started working on this new project.

In that case it screams for quality control even more, since they probably finished these eps come time ago ^^

I don't really know. All I know is that they actually have materials ahead of time which is rare.

If I may hazard a guess, I suspect that these might have been planned as more OVAs originally (when the scripts were written), and rokunin yushi was planned as the TV series, but then they didn't get enough funding so decided to rework the future ovas they had already started working on into the TV series and scrapped rokunin no yushi.
Otherwise it would be pretty incredible for them to completely start from scratch only 6 months ago and finish so quickly.

OVA psychogun and time drive came from the manga color as galaxy nights. So it is possible that they had already worked on it to make other oav and then, they transfer this work to introduce it in tv serie .
A second hyppothèse is to say that if in 6 months, they are in advance, it may be because all the work on ova has been beneficial. Thus, the staff is already familiar with the universe of cobra and this is beneficial for the progress of work.
Otherwise, can you confirm number of episodes planned ? ( 12 or 13 )

Thank you for your availability .

Never seen the old stuff before but I am quite familiar with the manga.
So I have notice that this show would not get the younger audience attention but I am not bothered by that much.

It was an okay first episode to me, good pace, and not so flashy action scene..

I thought it was a decent first episode. It wasn't anything terribly special, and the dialog was somewhat, but it wasn't trying to be serious. It was enjoyable and entertaining, just like a James Bond film.

Typical Cobra episode but they changed Cobra original VA and he was still alive when this anime was airing. Maybe he was too old.

All weebs creatures of the galaxy, hear this message. Those of you who listen will not be struck by western animation. You will no longer know hunger, nor pain. Your Anime have come to lead you now. Our strength shall serve as a luminous sun toward which all intelligence may blossom. And the impervious shelter beneath which you will prosper.
