Dark, dramatic, serious - with romance??? manga/anime

Mostly after a manga I guess. Ive heard that if you can think of it, there's a manga for it.. so, maybe a romance with a dark and sad setting?

If there is magically an anime which suits this description that I havent heard of, dont hesitate to share.

and please specify if its an anime or manga before hand, id appreciate that also.

I'd suggest trying out Basara (manga). There's also an anime adaptation but it only covers the first five volumes of the manga (out of total 27 vols).

Katanagatari is extremely dark but it takes a while to pick up on how dark it is because its subtle and has a very pretty colorful art style with happy go lucky main characters.

Rurouni Kenshin Tsuiokuhen fits your criteria perfectly if you haven't seen it. You don't need to have seen/read the main series first.

Dusk Maiden of Amnesia is a pretty dark romance.
