Sony Vaio, kind of old I believe I've had it for almost 6 years now. Still holds up pretty ok, plenty of hard drive space, battery has been shot for years. That seems to be a common problem overall and I would not say is indicative of the product itself.

I have a semi-custom PC that isn't exactly fancy, but it can run any game at 1080p, albeit at lower frame rates (and with occasional lag) with the newest ones. I spent four figures each on my old laptops, but this more affordable desktop PC is much better overall. I'll paste from my Steam. (Please don't stalk me, MAL peeps!) For reference, the computer itself (all the parts above the monitor in the list) only cost me $300 or so (though some of the parts were procured from the used market) while the accessories were worth around $1,600.

GPU: GIGABYTE GeForce GT 1030 Low Profile 2G
CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad Q9650 3GHz
RAM: 8GB DDR2-800
MB: Dell 0PU052
CPU cooler: Dell JP911 + Innovation Cooling Graphite Thermal Pad
case: Dell OptiPlex 755 SFF
OS: Windows 10 Pro 64-bit
monitor: ASUS VS229H-P
mouse: Finalmouse Ultralight 2 Cape Town
mouse pad: Razer Goliathus Speed Cosmic Edition
keyboard: HP Pavilion Wireless Keyboard 400
headphones: AudioQuest NightHawk
DAC/amp: Chord Mojo
microphone: miniDSP UMIK-1

Here's some stuff on my wish list...with a budget limit of $7K. (I'd like to get into 4K gaming with high frame rates.) I could have already gotten it, but I spent a small fortune experimenting with audio gear in the past. lol... I may end up settling for a custom PC under $2K in the meantime.

GPU: EVGA GeForce RTX 2080 Ti K|NGP|N
CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 3950X
MB: GIGABYTE X570 AORUS XTREME
RAM: G.SKILL Trident Z Neo DDR4-3600 CL14-15-15-35 16GB (2x8GB)
SSD: GIGABYTE AORUS NVMe Gen4 SSD 2TB
PSU: Seasonic PRIME Ultra 1000 Titanium

Interesting. I'm so obsessed with Borderlands (mostly 2) that it's more or less the only game franchise I play nowadays. I wonder how long you've played the five Borderlands games. I enjoy 3, but favor 2. Anyway, I added the games you listed to my Steam wish list, as I am quite intrigued.

Also, add:

- WRATH: Aeon of Ruin [Early Access Game]
- Prodeus [Early Access Game]

There are some great alternatives that are even better in 2D for low-budget PCs/Laptops.

*For example, if you like Dark Souls games but your PC/Laptop can't run 'em then try these (you might like these even better like I'm):
- Blasphemous
- Death's Gambit
- Dark Devotion
- Salt and Sanctuary

*And I just recently found out about these great 2D games, perfect for low-profile PCs
- Fight'N Rage
- Blazing Chrome
- Wallachia: Reign of Dracula
- River City Girls
- Record of Lodoss War-Deedlit in Wonder Labyrinth- [Early Access Game]

>_> I'm no expert gamer (at least not since the early-2000s), but, it seems some Indie Devs are kicking hard lately! (putting those other big Big Devs to shame)

There's no added benefit to having more than 16GB of RAM when it comes to gaming. Nearly all of even the most intensive games won't use more than 10. As for the power supply, read reviews if you're curious about it. It's generally a good idea to have more than twice the power you need.

Yes there is: RGB. Everyone knows that RGB lighting makes a PC run faster.

...Though, 32GB is a bit more justified on my system due to large Photoshop projects.

All I did was to upgrade the ram, and replaced the drive with a SSD, keep it updated and it runs like a beauty.

lol $7K is way too overkill xd you should probably stick with the $2K idea. My system is close to $2K and I can 4K game fine, getting close to 60 or above on most titles either on max settings or turning down a few that don't make a huge impact visually (like shadows from Ultra --> High saves a lot of frames and it's a barely noticeable difference). Probably even more if I tone down Nvidia control panel settings to performance instead of quality.

Also if you can, you should wait for the 3000 series lineup (which should be later this year if it doesn't get delayed) and go for the 3080ti rather than 2080ti, so you can get much better performance at around the same cost :P

speed is more important anyways, fast 16gb ram is much better than slow 32gb

also 1000W allows to operate in better efficiency ranges

"7000" budget. 16gb of ram.

1000w power supply for?

speed is more important anyways, fast 16gb ram is much better than slow 32gb

also 1000W allows to operate in better efficiency ranges

Why would you buy slow 32 sticks then? That makes 0 sense. adding 16 more gbs doesn't = slower

Uh what? You OCing it isn't going to add 500w. I have a 1200 supply. And that is because it was I was running FOUR 980's.

It is good to have 500w of useless power but not ok of 16gb extra ram?

You can find lots of info with a quick Google search. The extra power isn't useless. Here's an example of some of the benefits. (But bear in mind that I'm interested in that particular one due to other factors covered in glowing reviews, not just its power rating.)

32GB of RAM could be useful for something like video editing, but won't yield a tangible increase above 16GB for gaming. Even 8GB is often as good.

lol $7K is way too overkill xd you should probably stick with the $2K idea.

That's the maximum I'm willing to pay. Within that context, I don't care about the price. I'm basically curious about experiencing cutting-edge performance for that budget. (But hey, at least it's not nearly as crazy as this $30K gaming PC.)

I probably won't build that custom PC this year, so I will indeed opt for whichever parts are ideal in my eyes at the relevant time.

Wat? Sure it can, there's a difference between speed (and I don't mean just clock speeds) vs memory. Memory is literally what it is, memory. Storing information to be used later. Unless you're doing some highly demanding work like super high quality photo editing or video editing, then you never really need 32gb of RAM cause you'll never end up using anywhere close to the limit, so it'll just be sitting there for no reason. That's why jumps from 4gb --> 8gb --> 16gb are more rewarding, because in those cases you'd be running close to memory limit with daily usage, so the upgrades would give you more needed room. Jumping from 16gb --> 32gb is mostly pointless currently cause the average person will barely need that much memory in the first place. If memory was the deciding factor, then why do people recommend running 2 lower ram sticks instead of just 1 larger one? (i.e., 2 x 4gb vs 1 x 8gb). Because of dual channelling which increases the relative speeds giving a faster experience.

Speeds on the other hand allow the CPu to get data faster, which does increase performance. Even in some games in 1080p you'll notice a large increase in FPS just from having faster memory

So I dunno why the average person/gamer would spend the extra and buy 32gb. Maybe because either they think bigger = better or maybe they got it on a deal that let it be cheaper who knows. In the future, yes 32gb will eventually become the norm, but rn 16gb is plenty for most people

as for the PSU, I'm guessing it wasn't clear so let me help out

also 1000W allows to operate in better efficiency ranges

PSU's generally are more efficient when they operate anywhere from 50% - 80% (of its max power output), and having a higher psu gives you more leeway in that regard. That doesn't mean you're wasting electricity, cause PSU's don't work that way. THey don't push power out, the computer parts just draw it out when they need it. Most people don't go for higher ones mainly because of cost I assume.

It's a Samsung Odyssey laptop. It suits me for what I want to use, my only complaint is because of the low Ram nightmare, had a hard time back when I needed to use android studio.

Since I tend to play old games it doesn't disappoint me in this part as well. I do intend to buy a desktop sometime in the future though.

Corsair Vengeance 16GB DDR4 3000Mhz

pretty much in the middle, but it's the most of what my budget got me... the 1660 isn't even the super ver.
i built it from a much more budget 1050 ti setup i had for three years. the only parts i haven't upgraded yet are the case and the psu (which is a nonmodular evga with cables everywhere). but from what i play and the monitor/settings i play on it's fine, even on vr it works well

This is a family PC and I did some few upgrades for it.

CPU: Intel Core i3-4170 (3.7 Ghz)
Cooler: DeepCool Gammaxx 200T
Motherboard: ECS H81H3-M4
RAM: 8GB DDR3 @ 1333 Mhz (Dual Channel)
Storage: Toshiba DT01ACA100 1TB
PSU: Seasonic Focus Plus 550 Gold
GPU: Sapphire Pulse Radeon RX 550 2GB (640 Stream Processors)
Fans: 2x DeepCool GS120
Case: Trendsonic FC-F55A
Keyboard: Redragon K557 Kala RGB (Outemu Red)
Mouse: Dell Moczul

It's still keeping up to most of our needs thanks to the extra threads in the CPU. Not the most impressive, but I'm satisfied I can now play the games from the late 2000's to early 2010's at a decent framerate without sacrificing too much on graphical fidelity, because I still remember playing Assassin's Creed for the first time with the 8400 GS (512 MB) in 2009.

Once I've enough budget again, I'll try to build a 2nd-gen mid-range Ryzen system now you can find the R5 2600 at a great bargain these days.

my brother and i use this cheap and old desktop computer that has AMD A8 7650K APU, 8GB DDR3 RAM, 1TB HDD, Windows 10 and my brother can only play esports games with it like CSGO and DOTA2 (low settings and 720p resolution)

Since I edit quite a lot and also play games daily this is my setup:

CPU: Ryzen 5 2600
GPU: RTX 2060
RAM: 16 gb DDR4
Storage: 500gb SSD + 1tb HDD

Pretty sure this should last me for quite a few years since I don't really always need to play on Ultra when it comes to new games [and I mostly play older games to begin with lol].

Thread merged with newer duplicate thread.

As for me I just recently got a new laptop to finally be able to play any game I want decently enough as well as to not have any more issues with wasting time waiting for computer to finish something. Computer I had before was already rather old and already low end by the time I bought it, so it's a big upgrade. Although so far I have just been replaying old games that I couldn't run properly before, so I'm not fully utilizing it yet.

CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-9750H CPU @ 2.60GHz
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060
RAM: 16263 Mb
Storage: 1tb SSD (and I plan to also add 1tb HDD for files that don't require fast access, such as anime, etc.).
Monitor is 1920x1080 pixels with 144Hz refresh rate.
