Here is the thing, if you take 2 beautiful people, and one of them has light characteristics, while the other has darker, most people would be inclined to "choose" the lighter ones. I am not a huge fan of blonde women myself, but I am not detached from reality. This has nothing to do with race. It has to do with our brains. We tend to like brighter things, because they are associated with "good health"among other things. What I am trying to say is, deal with it. | I don't know a lot about japanese culture. The only thing I know is the existence of theories about hair color and its effect on how people see you (beauty, intelligence and personality). I haven't read every study, but, in general, men approach blondes because they believe blondes are more needy (men's insecurity about rejection decrease). They also prefer blondes as girlfriends because they believe blonde women are better trophy (girlfriend status) and have more fun. On the other hand, men believe brunettes are more intelligent and arrogant, but men prefer them as wives because men believe they are good housemakers. Men also prefer dark-haired women because men believe they are more sensible. Red-haired women are perceived as the less shy among women, however, they are also perceived as the most promiscous one. Probably, we shouldn't use the same theory for every country because Japan is very homogenous (body, religion, language..) and they don't have too much contact with other nationalities. Unfortunately I didn't find any study about this issue in Japan. Based on the articles I've read about the interaction between japanese people and foreigners, the theory is that their lack of interaction makes them feel " mixed feelings of envy, admiration, suspicion and uncertainty when interacting with foreigners". The good thing is this tread is about anime. Blonde characters, like any other character, received that hair color because of their personality. Though some foreigners have blonde hair, japanese society associates blonde hair with rebellion against society (its rule, its people, its culture...). Blonde characters are cheerful, impulsive, childrish, dumb and/or arrogant, they are often people who create trouble, snobby characters, people from royalty, oujo characters and/or characters who its anime find attractive: Naruto, Usagi Tsukino, Misa Amane, Haruno Haruka, Konjiki no Yami, Alois Trancy... |

Blonde characters receive privilege in anime (well, blondes receive privilege in the real world too: they do not receive hate or indiference, they receive praises and people treat them better). In anime, they receive the best hairstyles, the most detailed hair (and eye). In addition, they tend to receive nice/elegant/fashionable clothes. I would dare to say there is no elegant/hot/nice/cool hairstyle that a blonde character hasn't wear: braid bun, pigtail, double pigtail, tiara, highlights, bow, hairpin, wavy hair, no bang, curly hair, straight hair, irregular, layer, blind bang, emo, lolita, punk, rock, metal... Probably, the only hairstyle anime often doesn't give to blondes is the combination of very straight hair+ very regular ends. They tend to give it to characters who have white, black or purple hair. I think the reason is japanese history, this hairstyle exist in asian old paintings. |

| This seems to be common not just in Japan, but in a lot of other countries as well. Honestly, I don't know why. I prefer black hair and brunette (brown) hair to blonde hair myself. Not that blonde hair is bad or anything, I just think black hair and brunette hair is more appealing/attractive. |

| recessive genes are rare , such as Lighter hair and eyes ; Since they are not common compared to other genes such as darker hair and eyes they stand out more , and so people tend to find them more appealing. Even more for the japanese people . as Asians are mostly the ''same'' because they tend to have the same features : straight dark hair and dark small eyes. |
