Did getting into anime spark your interest in learning Japanese at all?

For me it was a big fat YES. I was actually going to take German instead but I got into Sailor Moon and other "gateway shows" before I entered high school and decided to take the Japanese classes there. I'm glad I did. I found the language to be utterly beautiful and fascinating to learn and as a student who only poured her passion into art up until that point, this was a very big deal. I hate studying but I love to study Japanese. I never thought I could put "love" and "study" in the same sentence. XD

I think the language itself both looks and sounds really cool. I'd like to get a career that relates to it somehow. Honestly, I'm dying to work for Yen Press or Kodansha to translate manga but they normally are only interested in internships. :/ Still, I might make it into free-lancing.

How about the rest of you?

I guess in a way.

I'm taking a Japanese course in my university right now, but the reason why I wanted to learn Japanese was to read LNs/play JRPGs.

not at all, I figured since I never learned italian from my mother's side I didn't have enough confidence to learn any other language (I still want to learn a language though)

although, my first kiss was with this japanese kid, so maybe it sparked some interest there O_O

Bruh if I had the actual time to fit it into my schedule I would but working full time and being in college doesnt really give you a whole lot of patience to learn a new language

Nop, I already know two languages and a have no interest in learning another one, maybe I'm just a failure as an anime fan.

I want to but I don't really have enough motivation yet

funny thing I'm planning to learn German as well XD because I'm aiming to join my friend after a few years in Hannover ,Germany

Learning the japanese language so I can watch anime without subtitles so I can focus more on the anime itself rather than read text would be one of the biggest reasons

I mean, it seems like a nice language, now that's I've heard it in subs so much lol.
But it's not like Japanese would be the only language I want to learn. It'd be nice to be a cultured individual who could speak like seven languages.

Yes, it is a language I have contact with on a daily basis through this medium, of course I'd want to learn it. It would be weird if I didn't specially considering that I aim to learn many languages.

I think the language is pretty nice but I don't plan on learning it more seriously, aside from the words I've already casually picked up. I guess it's because I'm much more interested in other languages right now.

Japanese? It got me into the Japanese culture in general! I'm learning the language and even plan to live there in two years.

Nope but I like how it sounds and looks (really unique)
Some female voice acting gives me chills, love those voices.
I'm new to anime but already hate fandubs with passion.

Didn't know wanting to learn a language that isn't a lingua franca meant you were a something-phile... Guess I'm a Hungariophile for wanting to learn Hungarian

Jänkarinsults aside, Japanese is actually a pretty useful business language, so I have no idea what you are talking about (depends on the job obviously)

Spanish on the other hand is nearly useless if you don't live in Murica

But that's only for understanding anime better. I don't have the slightest interest in going to Japan or doing a full course language training in Japanese.

Got inspired, tried to, learnt the hiragana and katakana alphabets, and then gave up because of the structure and kanji which are too difficult for my rigid brain.

English is hard enough.

I am trying to find a teacher/institute, but everything related to Japan is rare in my country, and thus very expensive. And limited.

Yes, a little.

Sure it would be nice to be able to play untranslated VN and watch RAW anime, but learning it seems to be harder than learning English.

Bruh Japanese is one of the most useful languages.
Idk about you but my phone, my brothers phone, my mom's phone,my TV,my gaming consoles (all three of them),my computer, my car and even my washing machine are all Japanese. Also my dad had to visit Japan every year or so for work purposes. So yea..

Yes I guess. I realised I could understand the audio. So why not learn some reading and put my understanding to the test. So after being able to read manga that have never been animated and being able to understand the story and words. I thought why not just teach myself it from time to time.

Yeah, it made me want to learn japanese quite a lot. Unfortunately, lack of time, money and resources has made it quite a hard task. I still hope to learn it in the future.

When I was a kid, I wanted to learn English so that I could read my favorite authors in original. Now I'm writing on an English-language forum for fun.
But now my favorite authors are Japanese, so now I'm learning Japanese.
I wonder if when I'm older I would get into some other culture (alien?) and start learning their language too...

Anyway, big yes.
