Am i the only one who finds this hard to understand

So ive finished darket than black season 1 and 2 (yet to see gaiden) and i find that the anime,since the beggining is hard to understand but it seems other people like it and nobody ever like,questions it....i specifically find it hard to understand because a lotta reasons like
-the setting are never explained,the factions are never explained,its kinda hard to figure out what the factions are trying to achieve and are they good or bad guys,the whole contracter and doll things are never explained,everything that happens seem random and out of nowhere and and i donno,a lot man,a lot

So is it just me or is this whole anime complicating?
Maybe i didnt pay attention a lot but when they brought up stuff thats not explained(like they expect us to know it already) my mind just shut down

for the record, i too enjoyed the showed a lot but was frustrated that we never got any real answers or explanations for anything. it was gorgeously animated and cool, but yea it just builds up and escalates without stopping to explain all of these elements.
