We have known for a long time that series discussion threads are poorly highlighted on the forum. Some users have tried to push for series specific threads to be allowed into the general Anime Discussion and Manga Discussion boards, complaining the series boards are graveyards for their topics.

A new release has been pushed today that we hope is the beginning of the end of these concerns.

The Series Discussion top pages have been transformed into Recent Posts lists, solely for series subboard threads. You can toggle between:
  • All Topics (episode/chapter discussions + other threads)
  • Episodes/Chapters
  • Series Specific (other)
  • Boards (the old page design)
This filtering between showing [ All | Episodes | Other ] has been applied to the series sub-boards as well. Choosing Episodes will auto-sort the threads by most recent episode (e.g. ep 13 -> ep 1). You can sort All/Other topics by either creation date or last post.

Please note that there are two bugs that still need to be addressed:
  1. The series titles are currently not appearing on the topics feed (so you can't tell which thread is from which series).
  2. Stickies are appearing at the top of the list.
This will be fixed as soon as possible, so please hold tight until then.

You can check out the new forum feature here:We hope that this feature will help improve series specific discussion on the forum, so please make use of it and let us know what you think (while keeping in mind that series titles are still to come).

"Series Specific" isn't a very intuitive label, like, at all. Aren't episodes specific to their series as well? :|
Maybe just name it "Other" like you've in the series' forums.

I'd like to see more filtering options to make this truly useful tho, stuff like filtering by anime you've on your list, or just on your complete list or just your watching, etc.

Kinda unrelated but I'd love an option to follow series' forums themselves rather than individual threads, so like, maybe add a "favorite" option to this and we can add series there and it'll only display those series + give us notificiations or something when a new thread is made is any of those series' forums.

Really smart. The ''Other'' option in particular is very helpful, something that I've wanted for a long time.

Nice update but I hope there will be an option to highlight which section (all topics, episodes, series specific, other) you can see first permanently rather by the default 'all.

But yeah, definitely quite useful.

oh nice an announcement :)
useful and nice update

this may also encourage the creation of threads which aren't only about new episodes/chapters (and hope it will)

Could there be a indication on what series the thread is about. Some threads got a somewhat generic title such as (Actual examples) "Is there enough content of the manga for a new season for the anime?", "Any translation news? " or "AoTY?", but you can only tell what the series it refers to upon actually seeing inside the thread.
It's a bug, read OP.

Cool change, though it would be nice if the one I choose would stay permanent until I switch to a different one myself. Each time I choose Boards or Episodes it always goes back to All Topics the moment I leave the section or any thread in general.

I had a feeling that there was a bug in there somewhere because the way things are at the moment is, in all honesty, useless. Hope the bug gets fixed soon, although personally I would still strongly prefer the "Boards" option to be the default, but whatever.

Maybe fix things before adding more next time? I mean, it's cool that MAL's rolling out more stuff, but there are several features that have recently been added that haven't had bugs addressed/fixed. Surely this just increases the work load...

Anyway, I'm not gonna use this much, since I just browse the forum by "recent posts" :V.

Interesting but...
Would it be possible to go to the next step after a while? it would be nice to allow an automatic filter, which would only leaves in topics/posts/and so on done in boards concerning a series/manga/LN we've put in our animelist/mangalist.
I mean there's very little chance we'll voluntary participate in a topic about something we haven't seen/read, so that would be extremely helpful for most peoples.
Being able to toggle that function would be very nice. Either automaticaly, or adding a column in the animelist and mangalist to "check" the boards we want to have displayed in that mode (with a "check all" button above in that case).
