It was already popular long before the anime. And actually the anime didn't boost it's current readers yet.

Man this is unstoppable, and the live action will debut in theaters this Saturday. We'll see it for quite a while again on the list I suppose.

*3. *,192,225 *,192,225 One Punch-Man Vol.8
*2. 289,941 289,941 One Punch-Man[ Vol.10
33. *26,157 *26,157 One Punch-Man Vol.10 Limited Edition

So OPM vol. 10 sold sold 316,098 copies in 3 days compared to vol. 8 which sold 192,225 copies in the same number of days, that's great. It even sold more in 3 days than vol. 9 sold in 7:
*6. 280,191 *,280,191 One Punch-Man Vol.9

It's probably going to be above the 400k and perhaps the 500k line next week. Let's see where this goes from there.

Also excited for SNK next week :D

Yep, and sadly soon. Nurarihyon no Mago was axed due to poor rankings and that manga was selling more than Toriko when that happened:

*6, *,187,276 *,188,041 Nurarihyon no Mago Vol.25 (week 1)

You people are always the same thing. Don't you look more than 1 or 2 rankings? First that this 2 last weeks it is still out of the bottom 5, and that before that it was ranking well. Here the rankings

latest week - 9th of 14
2 week ago - 10th of 15
3 week ago - 7th of 16
4 week ago - 3rd of 15
5 week ago - Color Page
6 week ago - 9th of 16
7 week ago - 11th of 16
8 week ago - 6th of 14
9 week ago - 7th of 14
10 week ago - 8th of 14
Average - 8th of 15

This means is ranking right exactly in the middle! 7 series above it, 7 series below it. It is in no way in risk of cancellation!

*7. *88,820 200,033 Toriko vol. 36 (week 2)

We will not say goodbye to Toriko anytime soon!

Do you know how Nura was ranking at that time?

Nura last 10 rankings(counting every series even Color and Cover)
last- 20th of 20
2- 19th of 20
3- 20th of 20
4- 15th of 21
5- 21st of 21
6- 20th of 21
7- 19th of 20
8- 9th of 20
9- 13th of 20
10- 17th of 21
Average 16th of 20

This it was in the bottom 5, and certainly that 9 was a color page. Beelzebub was a similar thing.

When will people understand that Rankings matter way more than volume sales. Stuff like Busou Renkin and Double Arts volumes were selling amazing and they still got cancelled with bad rankings. Stuff like Hinomaru Zumou, PSI Kusuo Sainan and Isobe Isobee Monogatari volumes sells really little, and with amazing rankings they still are alive till now, and will keep alive. Highly selling series like Saint Seiya and Shaman King were cancelled because of bad rankings. Stuff like Toriko that you think sells little, will keep in the magazine given the rankings.

In terms of rankings it isn't. Toriko always was a series with highly fluctuating rankings in the magazine. For a long time people pick those low instances and say Toriko is in risk. In the end the series is always averaging well.

As long as the volumes sell well the series is safe. Double arts didn't sell amazing. It was in the same range as zumou, just a little bit higher.

38,106 Double Arts vol.3

You are exaggerating the importance of Rankings. Beyond the new serialized works they don't matter that highly, especially if the volumes sales are good.

This means is ranking right exactly in the middle! 7 series above it, 7 series below it. It is in no way in risk of cancellation!

okay but it will be gone in a good 2-3 years. I dont think it will make the 10 year mark of serialization.

the series is getting rushed u cant deny that

Toriko's a very peculiar issue. No doubt its sales aren't great and recently its rankings have been down. I'm curious, though, how its longevity threats the possibility of a cancellation. I also kinda feel like the arc it's in can easily be the end of the series, even though the mangaka has stated there's actually a lot more left. And I kinda feel like there's a real possibility WSJ has kinda encouraged the mangaka to start to wrap things up, as it kinda feels like the story is being rushed. Thankfully it isn't being axed in a really awkward spot, but it's clear the worldbuilding has been limited quite a bit.

It's a damn shame it was never as popular in Japan as it is in the west, and it's a damn shame the anime was so freaking terrible that the series couldn't get traction. I honestly question why mangaka even let Toei adapt their series into anime when they have a track record of doing a trash job for a very long time now, I honestly can't think of a series in recent memory that Toei's adapted that has been really good.

Now I don't know how many days Toriko's new volume has had for its first week of ranking, but 118k isn't going to cut it for WSJ. You do hope it can reach at least 300k or so in total sales, but at 118k the first week doesn't seem likely.

I think Toriko's great and I"m sad to see it doing so poorly in the rankings, but I guess it's just a taste thing, no pun intended.

I don't think I have seen a shoujo manga making the list for so many weeks in a row. All 5 volumes are still selling. Orange would have been a great anime if adapted. If only it happened. :/

I still don't understand Ookami Shoujo to Kuro Ouji's popularity. One of my friends said she loves it. All I see are a horrible male character with horrible personality and a terrible female character with terrible taste in men. Funny? Nope. Just bad.

In regards to my previous post: http://myanimelist.net/forum/?topicid=1459972

2016 rankings updated with the partial sales (only remembered to factor those in) from the Top 50 Manga for series that didn't make the Top 10 Manga Series this week. The 2015 November monthly rankings were not all that useful, so nothing changed in regards to those rankings.

*1 609,799 One Punch Man (ワンパンマン)
*2 586,777 Yotsubato! (よつばと!)
*3 438,061 Haikyuu!! (ハイキュー!!)

*9 189,250 Uchuu Kyoudai (宇宙兄弟)
10 189,093 Owari no Seraph (終わりのセラフ)

Might be a bit OT but if anything that is killing it this season it is this:

Don't get me wrong, I like OPM and Haikyuu! but the intensity and the action of the above series in the last couple of episodes have lived up to the hype and have been of another planet. I was skeptical when Sunrise Inc. handed the series over to Bandai Namco Pictures but I don't have any doubt anymore!

OPM 10 sold about 35k more than the previous volume in 3 days (volume 9 had 6). Considering the anime boost isn't even over yet, it's doing great.
Next week will be SnK's time to shine.

Well, to be fair those ratings are inflated because at this point who other than the fans even bothers watching the fourth season of Gintama? Not to say the recent episodes haven't been great...
geraltDec 10, 2015 1:05 AM
5 main aspects I base my ratings on:
1. Did DramaEnthusiast make a thread about it?
2. Is it better than Breaking Bad?
3. Did MellowJello recommend the shit out of it?
4. Has it caused a (very entertaining) shitstorm on MAL?
5. Is it actually good?

Scratch the fifth point, it's not very relevant...

Lal, of course within the group of Gintama enthusiasts the rating for an episode will be insanely high. Haikyuus last episode had more than 88% 5/5. That's because mostly people who enjoyed it are rating at all (or watching anymore, seeing that Gintama is like in its ~500th episode and Haikyuu is in its 2nd season).

Anyway I'm happy for Haikyuu selling well. It's a good sports manga and I want it to continue for a couple of years longer.
