I love initial D so much that I recently rewatch the first season and will watch the rest of the other season. I love the thrills and how it continued to keep me interested all the way through. Mannnn, wish there was more car racing anime. If car racing anime were to come out this year, or the year after that, the cars will look so damn hot. Not only that racing chicks will be hot as well.
Though I prefer older cars and downhill mountain drifting with curves here and there . . . Oh, I think newer cars will look hot when racing I guess? But I love the Initial D car a lot though.
I like cake.

ok dude I get your obsession but anime is (what I think) centered towards the Japanese norms and teenagers struggle. May it be romance or action. Cars are a good genre but this genre is replaced with mecha which is more focused on the action seeking audience

mainly reason is hard to animate. that's why mostly racing theme is live action.

OP try Capeta, it's the only car racing (Go-karts/Formula cars) anime that I've seen and I absolutely loved it.

As for why the they're aren't many car racing anime...... No clue, lack of interest probably.

That'd be under sports anime, which is a niche for some people.

Speed Racer and Redline are the only really famous racing anime I know of. One was a 1960s adventure and the other was a space epic.

Japan is an overcrowded series of small islands, and racing isn't that popular. Most people take the train/subway to get around and don't own a car.

Well, mostly because there isn't that much of an audience for them over in Japan, unlike the west omst of the street racing takes place in abandoned mountain roads and highways so pleople aren't that interested in it.

There's also other factors like licensing costs for cars and how expensive they're to produce.

But hey, maybe we'll get some more shows now that CG is becoming more comon by the day.

There are quite a few older ones (70s/80s) aren't there?

Also yeah, it's hard as fuck to animate cars. They just look out of place no matter what you do tbh.

Because they are more difficult to animate well than other genre, as they involve a lot of movements, even if they successfully animate it, it's not guaranteed that they would sell well.

I think Japanimation needs a car race version of KanColle. Instead of cars lets have half loli half car little girls and let them be driven by your average otaku. and most important 2 male bishonen drivers for one loli
this will sell a lot

In the past they were pretty popular and there existed a lot of manga and anime with car theme. Initial D is basically one of the last popular car racing series and it from 1995. Currently Car Racing is not popular and so you rarely see it, maybe in the future the genre popularity can come back again.

I'm skilled.. I don't have to walk through fire to know it is hot.. but you called me out correctly on this one.. I didn't finish this series... I dropped it 5 episodes in.. some things are not meant to be watched... Texhnolyze and this... it was just sooooo dull.. An anime where it takes 3 ppl to fill up a gas tank starring a guy that somehow looks confused every scene. Top that off with ending credits which can only be described as white rap performed by the blue man group.

Though after reading this thread I will watch Redline.

Racing just isn't in right now.

I mean the initial D phase was in the early 2000's, when it was fresh and new.
Plus this is just a personal opinion, but watching cars race around the same track 20-50 times is dull no matter how fast they are going. Only exciting parts are always the crashes.

You are talking about sport racing not street racing. Though sport racing are like street racing, but street racing is well on streets. Not to mention the thrills that carries with it are great. They are not in the same track all the time. Especially when they start moving else where some where on season 4.
