I'm thinking about watching clannad I've heard it's really sad, I can handle a sad story as long as the ending is happy so with out any spoilers does clannad and clannad after story have a happy ending? Also when ever I finish an anime even if it ended good I always get pads litterally every time, that being said should I stay away from clannad if it's really as sad as everyone is saying?

It is sad but it does have a happy ending. A forced happy ending though.

True, I just don't agree with spoiling yourself with a series like Clannad. I get that at 50ish episodes it's an investment, and people don't want to waste their time on something that they're not going to be satisfied with, but I think the point of watching things is to discover that on your own and determine your own satisfaction, rather than basing it off what others say. If that makes sense.

The ending may be forced but Clannad story-writing is crafted well. Also Tomoya's development in the last 10-12 episodes that make this anime has great slice-of-life value. Not recommended if 50 eps are too long 4 u.

Yes. Honestly, Clannad is impressive to even HAVE an ending, because most of these types of animes nowadays don't.

If you can't handle the tear, then don't watch it. Simple

You'll be waiting like 47 episodes or whatever for a fucking happy ending, when in those 47 episodes you'll be suffering internally. Though, they seem to make it funny once and a while. Clannad is pretty okay though, mix of sad and funny, but afterstory overall just heartwrenching .

PS don't get attached to anyone, and fuko becomes a comic relief, so don't cry for her

I actually think the ending wasn't bad at all but rather clever. The show already foreshadowed a lot of things from episode one. One of them was the girl and the robot in the illusionary world. Many people say the ending was an asspull since it "didn't make sense" and "didn't follow the story line". But that's not true at all. The show had many fantasy elements even though it was portrayed mostly as a slice of life.

After rewatching the show a year later, I realized that there were a lot of details hidden in each episode of the series. If you actually pay attention, the ending of clannad will make a lot more sense. Although some parts of the ending in Clannad are open-ended and can be interpreted in many ways. The creators intended to do that.

I still think this show is worth watching. It definitely has some heartbreaking moments but it portrays it beautifully and well. Clannad does have a happy ending but I think it deserves it. The characters went through a lot of hardship so I think personally that the ending was perfect.

yeah the ending of clannad was happy, and i liked the ending a lot. a lot of events lead up to it, so its not like it came out of nowhere. and it showed the common theme of tomoya accepting, and being able to forgive.

In my opinion it will depend on how closely you pay attention to bits of information provided along the way, and especially as you near the end.

Without catching some of the details along the way, the ending won't make as much sense.
If you miss some of the detail near the end, it could feel forced, or simply a WTF just happened moment for you.
In my book it's a happy ending, but I can also see how some might not reach the same conclusion.

Depending on how empathetic you are you'll likely experience the full range of emotions from Clannad and After Story.

Nobody will be able to tell you how you will react to the parts designed to elicit emotions, or how you'll feel once completed, and don't let anybody tell you how you SHOULD react.

You're never too old to watch anime.
If I ever stop watching anime, check my pulse I'm likely dead.

I wake up with coffee & anime, I go to sleep with coffee & anime.

Imagine playing a video game like Devil May Cry or something similar. And there's a condition that you'll get an extra cut scene at the end if you collect 1000 spirit orbs throughout the game. That's the ending of Clannad. It's a happy ending if you like cheese.

And that just shows how little you know about story telling. Stories are never about what happens but about how and why, it's about the journey, not the destination and knowing the destination shouldn't matter to the story. And knowing if it's a sad or a happy ending doesn't even tell you what happenes. If a small spoiler can ruin a story then the story wasn't that good to begin with.

I wasn't happy

Talk about it, i feel like a hole was ripped out of my heart and then someone just tried to poke it back in. Not how it works.
The ending just made me question my existance and made me a different being.
I feel like i am missing something now, after watching after story, of course. After watching clannad i felt pretty good.

I hope not. They all deserve to suffer for eternity. Well, the characters are that stupid that maybe they deserve a pass.

It is a happy ending, but I find it to be a pretty unsatisfying happy ending, even if it was foreshadowed. I was sure I was gonna rate Clannad AS a 9/10 because it was constantly getting better after Tomoya became an adult, had the series ended properly around episode 19 with some epilogue scenes showing what the other characters are up to and that kind of stuff, I would call it a masterpiece even, but the following episodes felt like unnecessary suffering porn for Tomoya only for him to get out of the situation through magic, erasing all the consequences he faced up until that point and handing him this golden ending where everyone is happily ever after on a silver platter.

To me, this weakens the overall message of the series about how loving other people can be painful, but it's still better than living your life isolated like an emotionless robot, because the painful part of Tomoya's life just didn't exist anymore, so he didn't have to grow up to learn that message anymore. I still like the series, but this ending soured me enough to drag down my rating to an 8.
Who are you and why do you show your hostility towards a complete stranger whom you've not once spoken with before. Are you seriously asking to get blocked? Well, if that's what your intent is; to tempt me into throwing hands with someone as lowly and insignificant as you, then i may grant your wish provided you articulate yourself a bit better when trying to spite a person of my wavelength.
