I tried reading 2 mangas recently, Rurouni Kenshin and Tokyo Ghoul. I read the first chapter of each and got bored out of my mind. Is there a way to make them more enjoyable or is manga just not for me?

Maybe those two just aren't for you.

Check out One-Punch Man. Or maybe something short like Hideout. Try Battle Angel Alita too, that had me hooked from the beginning.

Read Gantz, no deep thinking required.
All credit goes to Sacred.

1. Pick a manga that sounds cool
2. Read it

Start with short manga first, then find the reason why you got bored. Recording the time duration in file will be helpful. Read each type of manga and save the record in file.Find the highest number, then find any similar manga. Repeat the same method and then you will began to get into reading manga.

I think manga can work for you. You get a lot of pictures that help give you that visualization that anime does. Just try to find the right manga for you. For starters, check out a manga of an anime that you liked. For example. Yamada and the Seven witches anime coveres around the first 100 chapters of the manga, but the manga is on chapter 384, so it lets you continue the story even though the anime is behind.

I saw this anime on your list, check out its manga Nanatsu no Taizai

Older manga are slower; try newer ones.

Don't read too fast, it's like a book, you have to let it all sink in.
Toriko is a good manga to start with.

If you're getting bored, I feel like there probably aren't enough events of significance happening past the first chapter, so I assumed something faster paced (probably something that is a light novel adaptation) would have more meaningful content in early chapters.
Be thankful for the wisdom granted to you.

This.

also try to read

- Onanie Master Kurosawa
or
- Oyasumi Punpun

These two is the reason why I love manga right now I didn't expect manga at first to have a deep story :)

Like someone said, let it sink in. It must be read from the beginning, otherwise it will confuse and bore you, and lack the same impact.

Errr... Try Toriko, Kingdom, Gantz, One Piece... Those are some pretty easy and entertaining reads imo that I can think of at the moment.

If it's something slower, have a bit of patience and devote more of your attention to it to take it all in.
And maybe you should try listening to some music while reading. Find some appropriate soundtrack or something and give it a shot. I did it with some and it enhanced the experience.

Maybe you just didn't like the series. You seem like a shounen guy, try Fullmetal Alchemist.
Also, don't stop in the first chapter. Try to read at least a volume. If you can't bare to do that, maybe just go back to anime.
