It's either 5 or 7 for me, I can't really choose.

Of course the rest were great too but those two definitely stood out for me.

For me, it's either Volume 1 or 7.

Volume 1 got me hooked. I mean, yeah I saw a lot of praise for it on /r/lightnovels and /r/noveltranslations (which led me to it), but it ultimately comes down to the reader (me), despite what the majority says. Anyway, I came in with high expectations, and Volume 1 didn't disappoint. At all.

After I finished it, I went on to binge-read the remaining 6 volumes. No regrets. And anyway, I really love Volume 1. When Kazuki initially meets Maria. Their "lifetime" spent together in the Rejecting Classroom. And one very certain quote: "I have come to meet thee, m’lady Maria. I am Hathaway, the one pledged to protect only thee, e’en it mean the betrayal of all others and their eternal enmity."

And Kazuki really does protect her. And this ties in with Volume 7. He defeats "O", and well... it's a happy ending!

That's why it's hard for me to rate one of these higher than the other. Volume 7... the extent of their relationship/love. On the other hand, Volume 1 deserves credit for getting me into the series and being good enough to be a stand-alone novel.

tl;dr - Eh. Volume 7 > Volume 1 by 0.0005%.

1, 3, 4 and 7 are all masterpieces to me. I guess 1 wins for creativity, 3 + 4 for enjoyment value and 7 for writing level

I can't really seperate 5 from 6 and 3 from 4, so I'd say the Kingdom Royale was the greatest survival game story I've seen, the Wish-Crushing Cinema was really truly mindblowing, but I'll never forget the utter shock from the twists in the Rejecting Classroom. But nothing compares to the final volume. It is beyond me how Eiji Mikage managed to encompass every idea, setting and atmosphere he had set in the previous volumes and make them even better and more vivid than ever. Honestly, it's been a while since I've read anything HakoMari-related and I still think it has one of the best story endings ever, and more so in the anime/LN mediums.

I hold 1 and 7 at the top since they both emotionally touched me hard. Then I think I would take 5-6, 2 and then 3-4. I have no real good motivation for my choices more than 1 and 7 just simply worked and piqued my interests.

7>1>(3+4)>(5+6)>2

7 was a emotional roller coaster, I couldn't have asked for a better ending. Very satisfying.

Volume 1 was what got me addicted to the series, does a great job of pulling the reader in and making you want to read more.

3+4 I found the survival game quite enjoyable, seeing how people act when they are forced into a death game was great. Also the start of Kazu's change.

5+6 I had a hard time rooting for Kazu sometimes, he was completely blind and only focused on saving Maria. His character basically does a 180 personality wise.. Was on the fence if it was a good thing or bad thing. At least he wasn't hiding behind Maria anymore.

Volume 2 was the weakest of the series. Wasn't really interested in what the story was telling.. But it did deepen the bond between Maria and Kazu which is good and and was needed.

Either 1 and 7. Vol 1 has the best twist handling and narration, while vol 7 is an emotional roller coaster with an amazing ending.

Its a tie between Vol 1 because it was good enough to keep me interested(which is difficult for me in regards to any LN) and vol 7 for the closure.

Like most people, I'm torn between the first and the last volume for reasons already stated by others. Volume 1 keeps you at the edge of the seat by throwing one twist after the other at you, whereas volume 7 is just a beautiful end to the series.

At the end of the day, though, I think I like the first volume the most. It's more down-to-earth than the other volumes, and everything's still fresh.

Personally, I'm also very fond of the third volume. It has some logic flaws, but it's one of my favorite death games.

Not including the final volume,
1 & 6 are the best imo.

2 was great until the part with Daiya beating Kazuki but after that was done, everything was ....meh.

1 >= 5 > 7 > 6 > 3 > 4 >2

On a two-volume long arc I generally prefer the establishment volume compared to the conclusion. 1 is still the best experience, 5 has the most personal enjoyment for me. 7 has third place for the trip to insanity.

6 or 7.

7 was really fucking mental.

As for 6, I hated Daiya's and Maria's reasons for their actions/objectives, so I was really satisfied when Kazuki rekt both of them, although it was sad to see him lose his sanity along the way.

6 also finished the tragic past of Daiya/Kokone/Haruaki/Rino, and revealed a lot more about the "side characters".

4 was also really good, felt really bad for Kamuichi even if he was an asshole

Survival game arc (11/10)> Cinema arc (10/10) > Rejecting Classroom arc (9/10) = Flawed Bliss arc (9/10) > Sevennight in Mud arc (7/10).

The survival game arc was godly. Same goes for the Cinema arc.

Ending was fucking good, and when the first volume gets rolling, it's hard to stop reading.

Finally finished this masterpiece and I was mindblown!

Game arc(one of the best mindgames I hav ever read)>Classroom arc=Flawed bliss arc> Cinema arc> Sevennight in Mud arc.

Vol 2 was the weakest since it was kinda expected the culprit, and there was not much mystery.

Still one of the best things I have ever read.

1 and 7 are definitely the best. They started out with a very intriguing premise and developed on that extremely well. 7 basically puts 1 out except upon the guy instead, and with Maria's sister's background story, and the ending is absolutely amazing. I think 7 might be slightly better cuz it has the great conclusion.

The game of idleness was without a doubt the best, plus I loved both Daiya and Kamiuchi's characters.

Volume 4>Volume 1>Volume 3>Volume 7 >Volume 6> Volume 5>>>>>>>>>>>Volume 2.

I honestly wasn't too fond of Volume 2, the Sevennight in Mud wasn't as interesting as the rest.

The parts with Kazuki becoming badass were the best. With this in mind, it'd be volume 5, however seeing the perfect writing in volume 7, and also how he broke gave it the edge. The flashback in volume 4, about Koudai Kamuichi, is easily my favourite part about this entire novel.

7 > 5 > 4 > 3 > 1 > 2 > 6

The top 4 are all epic in their own way and almost perfectly written. The other ones are close. Volume 6 does maintain a distance from the rest, though.

Ahh it's really hard to choose.

Vol.5 and 6 are my favorites. Kasuki's transformation after the Kingdom Royale was amazing.

Nothing beats Vol 1 imo, 7 came close but the way the author tortured Kazuki for no reason irked me a lot

i thought i hated 2 but 6 is most annoying, i dont like Daiya, should've grew Kazuki more instead of bringing in an emo character like him

All volumes are equally excellent

I like the vol6 and vol5 because I like the story of daiya and kokone and how daiya confronts kazuki.
I also like the transformation and determination of Kazuki to save Maria.
I like the final volume as Kazuki and Maria try to overcome all obstacles and
as the story concludes for all characters.
I like the survival game of vol3 and vol4.

Sorry for my bad english.
