| It's amusing that there are not one, but TWO different volumes of One Piece in the top 30; 55 and 56. Has that ever happened before? Also, surprisingly strong openings for Souten No Ken and Hanma Baki, with roughly 75k instead of 50k. Perhaps the older seinen readers, who actually have jobs, have more free time in December they want to spend reading them? |

I'm well aware of how popular the One Piece manga is. I just don't see how it's possible to have a volume be on the top 30 list 6 whole months after release (or 3 separate One Piece volumes among the weekly bestsellers SIMULTANEOUSLY). Even right now, when One Piece continues to break publishing records, they've only managed 2 volumes in the top 30 at the same time, not three. The Wikipedia link does not address this at all. You can only see it online where people thinks its cool for them to read Seinen/Josei whereas in Japan, it doesn't matter what demographic you read, you still look like a nerd to them. :p You totally misunderstood what I wrote. I made no judgments about shounen versus seinen, especially since I read and enjoy both. Rather, I meant that Hanma Baki and Souten No Ken are not particularly popular with younger fans, and thus, must rely SOLELY on the older male demographic for their sales. |
