Reported sales of Log Horizon:
Vol 5 - 14973 from week 1
Vol 6 - 13443 from week 1
-First anime started-
Vol 7 - 16459 from week 1
-first anime ended-
Vol 8 - 57186, spread over 2 versions - 2 weeks for LE, 5 weeks for RE. Second anime began around the same time as this came out.
Vol 9 - 51877 over 4 weeks (during which the second anime ended), 57116 from half-year rankings after 8 weeks.
Vol 10 - 31793 from week 1

Volume 9 sold 28129 in 5 days, volume 10 has sold 31793 in 6 days.

Sorry, I just posted it without clarifying as much as usual. It's weekly for the same period as this thread, and the rank figure is for all books rather than just the bunko one (as not all light novels are bunko format I would miss out things like Overlord if I used the bunko one).

I've checked POS, Tsutaya and honto daily rankings starting from 5 Oct, and looks like Rakudai Kishi no Cavalry has slightly better boost from the anime than Gakusen Asterisk.

It's funny that that one is getting made into an actual LN because it's being translated by the same guy who translated Evil God Average which also ended up becoming an LN, nice coincidence I guess, that was a nice read too, pretty funny.

Rakudai Vol 1 is ranking high daily since the start of this week, so we can mostly expect it to make Oricon weekly ranking Oct 5-11. Asterisk Vol 1 is also doing well but it will probably not make it or just barely.

Just a few words of slight caution about the above:

Firstly, remember what the rankings cover. Other than POS, all those rankings are just for single (albeit large) stores/chains.

Secondly, if you're trying to work out what will or will not rank in next week's rankings, you have to bear in mind what Oricon covers:
The top 50 bunko, which is more or less analogous to the top 50 bunko on POS.
The top 50 book, which does not include any bunko format releases. This season all anime adaptations are of bunko format releases, so they won't be on here.
The literature books ranking, which is a subset of the book ranking.
The top 20 light novels, which rarely add any extra volumes to the list.

Third, bear in mind that different days have different weighting, and that some volumes that will definitely get on the rankings aren't included in the data we have so far - or indeed aren't released yet. Dengeki Bunko's releases don't come out until tomorrow, for instance, and will be taking at least 3 spots on the weekly rankings even with just those 2 days, probably more.

Fourth, and perhaps most significantly for this situation, bear in mind that different series will get their sales boost on different days. If you look at Asterisk and Rakudai, it looks like Asterisk gets its boost all at once, whereas that of Rakudai is more spread out. This may be a case of spreading interest in the series (which would indicate growing popularity), but is more likely just a result of when the series is aired in different places. This makes it difficult to actually compare, especially as Asterisk's boost doesn't come until Sunday, meaning we won't get to see the extent of it until the day before or even the same day as the full weekly rankings come out.

Bear in mind that this ranking used to be titled "Light Novels and anime-related books". Even though the second half is gone from the title, the list on MAL still has the same criteria for inclusion. This is why the likes of that Tokyo Ghoul thing got included - and Sakurako-san is a million times closer to being a light novel than that is... Sakurako-san, having an anime adaptation currently airing, would thus be eligible for MAL's ranking list under this criteria even if it isn't considered to be an actual light novel.

It's also worth noting that, while - as I already stated - Oricon doesn't consider it to be a light novel, there are other places that do, and not just sites like wikipedia. Admittedly this is usually because they treat everything by a given label as either "light novel" or "not light novel" and there are other things published under the same label as it that are considered light novels, including by Oricon. Thus it falls in a sort of grey zone where it is, if you want my personal perspective on the matter, not wrong to claim either that it is a light novel or that it isn't one.

Sorry but not just oricon, Kadokawa(publisher) also never treat it as Light Novel, also Amazon.
And it's "english wikipedia", not "wikipedia", because Japan's wikipedia is label as regular novel.

Oh well, then this time Oricon is not right, because Shinrei Tantei Yakumo is always and only regular novel, same as Sakurako-san.

Still doesn't change the fact Sakurako-san is not a Light Novel, or show me a place that have more authority than Kadokawa or at least Amazon.
