should I watch DBZ?

Dragon ball is about 150 episodes and there are raving reviews about it in THEM and nihonreviews. so I watched it. BUT DBZ is about 290 episodes and both websites have given it a really bad and disappointing score. So I guess I'll pass DBZ.
what is the problem? Is something wrong with the main plot in manga or the anime is the problem? should I watch DBZ anime or read the manga or just drop dragon ball story at all?

Go with the manga. If anime is more your thing then go with Dragon Ball then Kai.

I have watched Dragon ball. it was great. but I don't know about DBZ.

DBZ is really cool, but the story telling gets worse and a lot of the old characters from the original series aren't really that important anymore (like Krillin, Yamcha, Tenshinhan etc).

Db Kai is like a remaster of DBZ, no fillers and slightly better visuals (also some other stuff was changed, but mostly not important). I'd recommend to watch Kai insteadt of Z!
