I think people are underestimating how much his struggles with the Arbalest are contributing to his poor mental state. It feels like it shares equal blame with Kaname being taken away from him. He basically can’t get a win professionally or socially, and since he’s always suppressed his emotions due to being a child soldier, now that he’s experiencing nothing but failure after having started to open up a little his decision to just give up makes sense. It’s funny because looking at the missions he’s taken part in, they’ve all been relatively successful even though he’s struggled with the Lambda driver, but all he ever seems to hear is how much he’s failing. There’s a limit to how much emotional baggage you can take before breaking, and it seems Souseke found his limit.
