Supporting character is every character who has been aired in Anime/Manga, neverthless of his role in any of those.

That's how I see it.

I mistakenly posted this in another thread, sorry and thanks to flygon250 for notice it.

The request is to remove a person of the database, this is the information:

In the database there is a Person by the name "Kurata" (family name) "Hideyuki" (given name) as can be seen here: http://myanimelist.net/people/1967/Hideyuki_Kurata

Then there is a duplicate name that inverts the family and given name as seen here:http://myanimelist.net/people/4042/Kurata_Hideyuki

Could I ask someone to answer this question for me:
Why were those characters removed?

If I'm not mistaken, they're Touhou characters that were removed because they don't feature in any of the Touhou manga we have in the database (Please note, the Grimoire of Marissa was removed due to not actually being a manga or a light novel).

I am aware that Grimoire of Marisa was deleted, however I have seen Flandre(taking her as an example) in another manga, Touhou Bougetsushou ~ Inaba of the Moon and Inaba of the Earth, she only appears in one chapter(though several times within that chapter) however other characters who also only appear in one chapter are still in the database. This confuses me as to this rule:
"Characters will not be related to series they made brief cameos in or were referenced to in."
How brief is "brief" then?

To the best of my understanding, Flandre only shows up as a shadow in a few panels. Also, just because other questionable characters have yet to be removed, does not mean they will not be. We did a first pass over all characters that were related to the Grimoire of Marisa; if they had no other relations, they were removed. The characters will be passed over again and ones that do not belong with the other series will be removed as well. If you would like to help with that, that would be wonderful.

QUICK! Someone draw a doujin with all those characters in them!

You are correct about the shadow. And I will now assume that there is no chance for those characters to return, unless a new manga gets added to the Database(anyone, please correct me on this).

Thanks for clearing it up anyway. And I would prefer not to help, not that I don't want to, but I would be breaking my heart when I would be helping removing Touhou characters from the Database.

I don't understand why people are freaking out over Touhou characters being removed if they don't appear in any of the actual manga material.

Because fanclubs over those characters exist now. Removing the character relations is...pissing people off. (including me)

Imagine having a favorite character, you being in a fanclub, one day waking up and having that character removed from MAL.

Just happens so that even a nameless character can be darn popular so characters with don't actually have anything to do with an actual Manga/Anime can be too I guess.
