| So here's the thing.. I liked Senki Zesshou Symphogear very much. Hell, it's even listed in the "Favorite Anime" section on my profile's "About me" section! Now after I finished it I, of course, started digging in the discussion pages to see why it's ranked so low (under 7!) And the thing I find the most is...."Bad animation quality"?? After finding that, I got myself a free night and watched the first season again. And...in my eyes, it's no different than the second or the currently airing third season Now can someone specify me which part of which episode is "badly animated"? Cuz after two watches I'm completely unable to find the so called "Bad animation" |

| I rewatched it not too long ago and I must say it was kinda noticable, season 2 was a marked improvement. Also the clip Hudson posted was at memetic levels back in the day xD Although that really is the only thing that brought down season 1 for me, the rest was perfect. |

| Hmm. I just watched Symphogear. Even going in with no expectations, good or bad, I was actually generally impressed with the animation, even though the quality definitely plummeted after the opus that was episode one. (Granted, I was watching it for fun with friends, not for critique and review, so my attention to detail must have been at least a bit lacking.) The animation direction is solid in general and spectacular at its best, and the fight choreography is consistently above average in complexity while still maintaining a significant level of cleanliness. Yes, Symphogear uses plenty of shortcuts, and it has some quality control issues, but it almost always manages to kick it up a notch when it really counts. And that's not even considering the art direction, which at its worst could only be considered generic and, again, at its best is spectacular. Most of all, however, I respect its ambition. More often than I would normally expect, Symphogear had the courage to stage its scenes and shots in ways that are harder to draw and animate. At least, I remember thinking that several times while watching it. Maybe that means that it was easier to screw it up (and more obvious when they did), but I for one would rather watch something that tries to set itself apart and sometimes fails than watch something succeed at achieving mediocrity. No, Symphogear's true failings lie in its poor characterization and its complete squandering of dramatic tension. But no one asked me. |

Now that you mentioned it, there really were some problems with the more dramatic parts, but the second and third season (right now at ep 4) have done a very good job at fixing that. I think that, as a whole, the series is becoming better at almost all the things that the first season was "missing" |

| Like Zeta, I respect Symphogear's ambition. As a project that obviously wasn't working with a big budget and with a storyline that is, in a word, ridiculous they decided to double down on everything and make it as crazy as they could. The result is two more seasons that seem to be getting better and better! |
