Magnetic Rose, Stink Bomb, and Cannon Fodder have also been combined to just Memories.

What happened to the forum topics for Stink Bomb and Cannon Fodder? I hope they weren't just deleted.

The OVAs (e.g. Animatrix)that will be merged, will their individual stories/episodes be listed in the Additional Info or in the main synopsis? I think listing the individual stories after the synopsis is the cleaner alternative rather than listing them all in the Alternative Titles which will make it look quite unwieldy.

How about the sweat punch OVAs:
http://myanimelist.net/anime/1077/Sweat_Punch:_End_of_the_World
http://myanimelist.net/anime/5633/Sweat_Punch:_Garakuta_no_Machi
http://myanimelist.net/anime/1934/Sweat_Punch:_Higan
http://myanimelist.net/anime/1072/Sweat_Punch:_Kigeki
http://myanimelist.net/anime/1976/Sweat_Punch:_Professor_Dan_Petrys_Blues
Shouldn't those be merged too?

Or Megazone 23:
http://myanimelist.net/anime/1935/Megazone_23
http://myanimelist.net/anime/2773/Megazone_23_Part_II
http://myanimelist.net/anime/2774/Megazone_23_Part_III
Its practically one series is it not?

Same goes for the Devilman OVAs... perhaps excluding Amon, but even then definitely the first two:
http://myanimelist.net/anime/2354/Devilman:_The_Birth
http://myanimelist.net/anime/2355/Devilman:_The_Demon_Bird
http://myanimelist.net/anime/2356/Amon:_The_Apocalypse_of_Devilman
I know those were released years apart but OVAs are released in an irregular fashion anyway... see Hellsing ultimate.

Also what happens with Saber Rider? Will it be kept? Its also a macekred US version of a japanese series, sth like Robotech... and Dragonball Z(U.S.) doesn't it obviously fall in the US edit category?

Personally I feel that Kara no Kyoukai should be merged too as a serial movie, but since it is a theatric release I guess it falls on that category of the new guidelines... a pity... its probably the only guideline I disagree with. Serial movies, like Kara no Kyoukai or the new Evangelion movies should be merged IMO.
Finally, I agree with what Ran said about listing the individual stories, if that's what they are, in the merged entries synopsis... Memories for example should have a list of the titles of the individual parts, as should Animatrix, or the Sweat punch OVAs if they are merged.

The Sweat Punch OVAs all have different airing dates, so they appear a bit different compared to the others which were all originally released in one package at the same date.

But regardless of whether they were released as singles or as compilations, they should still count as part of one series imo. Even if they are not related, they all share the same title after all, so grouping them together isn't too far fetched.

As for Megazone and Devilman, if they can be considered as a single series, I would certainly opt for a merge of them. Likewise with KnK and the NGE rebuilds. even if those are movies they are still clearly part of a series with a single story, so dividing them up doesn't strike me as being reasonable.
Especially since we already group together these OVA compilations like Memories and Megatokyo, which all have different, unrelated stories, there should be no reason not to group together stuff that is obviously parts of the same story.

i disagree with the removal of Bakugan: New Vestroia since it is a continuation of the series even if its not in japan at this point in time but New Vestroia is set to air in japan Spring 2010 on TV Tokyo like the original season did so it will be getting there in the future so its not just intended for the north american market since japan will have it and it is a sequel to the first season which they made.

Why don't you use anidb as source?

But Devilman:

http://anidb.net/perl-bin/animedb.pl?show=anime&aid=1659
http://anidb.net/perl-bin/animedb.pl?show=anime&aid=44

Gundam movies:

http://anidb.net/perl-bin/animedb.pl?show=anime&aid=4165
http://anidb.net/perl-bin/animedb.pl?show=anime&aid=4168

Megazone:

If follow anidb, it will be more easy.

And what about all those OVAs and specials and whatever else that anidb has merged in their parent entries... should we go like that? Its already decided not to AFAIK, otherwise it would be on the new guidelines. Also just because anidb does sth it doesn't mean everyone else should do the same... anidb has its way of doing things, MAL has its own.

But that's already what happens with the specials... I don't get what you are trying to say there... anidb has them all in the same page, MAL has them seperate, and should be kept seperate if we want them in the database, there is no way to merge them in their parent entries.

About the devilman OVAs your point is a fair one, I haven't seen them, I'm only saying this based on what I've heard about them. And I've heard that they are the same story, Anime-planet for instance has the first two together and the third seprerate. If they are different stories then ok my bad.

As for the ones you say, I haven't seen them, nor do I know about them... so I can't say.

Some more stuff which will have to be removed in order to comply with new guidelines:

Superflat Monogram and Superflat First Love: Advertisements for Louis Vuitton handbags

Hairy Tale This seems to be a shampoo advert.

Makai Senki Disgaea - Trailer: Because it is a trailer.

Dengeki Bunko 2007 Movie Festival Special: Because it is a advert/trailer for three anime movies.

I hope this makes your job a little easier.

A couple more changes:

Health With Little Red Riding Hood: This seems to be an independent production, and I don't believe it has won any awards, so I think this is safe to remove (I was surprised when it got on the database, in fact)

Cardcaptor Sakura: Looking at the AniDB entry this will need to be split into two, possibly three, separate anime, as there is over an entire season between episodes 36 and 37, and almost a entire season (10 weeks) between episodes 46 and 47, with the first Cardcaptor Sakura movie airing in the time in between those two episodes.

I would disagree about the Dengeki Bunko 2007 Movie Festival Special. Its not a trailer its more of a special combining the characters for the 3 movies together. Yes its to promote the movies but it is not a "trailer" or a promo. Also according to the info page it says it was sold on DVD as well, so that would seem to fulfill one of the new DB requirements. I would liken it to the Rumic World special which combined characters from Urusei Yatsura, Ranma 1/2 and Inuyasha.

I also disagree with combining Shugo Chara together. The series has run continuously but they did change the titles in between to suggest they were different. Plus the format for the 3rd season in particular is quite a bit different than the previous seasons, with a reduction in the episode length and the addition of live action elements.

I like the other changes and combinations. Many of them are long overdue. Particularly getting rid of the cartoon Lady Death.

I think I'd rather go with ANN entries than AniDB.

In any case, I disagree with the suggestion that Shugo Chara! entries to be merged. Across many sources, the three Shugo Chara! entries have been listed not as one series, but as separate ones. This is also evidenced by changes in the titles.

Don't forget Silverhawks. Largely done by the same people that did Thundercats.

Then add in the guidelines more rules regulating the split of entries of multiple seasons of one show. According to the single rule for that that there currently is whole Shugo Chara is supposed to be treated as a single entry.

If a TV series is split into two parts and at least one season (~12 weeks) falls between the last episode of the first part and the first episode of the second part, the second part will be treated as a second season and the anime will be split into two entries. Examples: White Album, Asura Cryin'.

Obviously Shugo Chara falls into this.

No it isn't. Just check the airing dates.
