It feels like in the past 2 years or so anime have been starting to diverge a little bit into different art styles and making things less cookie cutter. Looking back a lot of 05-07 stuff just seems like it could have been made by 2 different students who had the same teacher. The biggest ones I have noticed are No Game No Life (bright, colorful, contrasted) And then there's things like Ping Pong which had a very umm.... unique style that you either liked, could put up with, or hated. Or am I crazy and I've only been watching some weird ass anime and everyone else is somewhere watching clannad 2015 edition and all its look alikes,

Mod Edit: Large image placed in spoiler tag. If it's too big to fit in a single screen frame, it probably should be tagged, even if it is a very attractive image.

I like various Anime art styles throughout the 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, and 90s, and some between 2000-2005 are okay too.

But the majority of post-2005 art styles are not my cup of tea.

All generic anime looks the same and not generic tries to look different at least somewhat. What's new under the sun?

Different art styles make me interested in an anime. Heck, all my favorite anime have pretty unique art style and even animation for some.

I like variety but sometimes there are just some that I don't really like, like Ping Pong. They say the story is great but I probably will never watch it.

Pretty interesting. In this generation the art style is cool however the story often made it down. I don't know about this but, I have this thoughts that cool art style anime came from LN?

I only dislike art styles that get the body proportions wrong. This was what bothered me the most while watching shows like code geass and was the main reason why I dropped xxx holic after the first episode.

My favorite art styles are those that use beautiful backgrounds like mushishi or trust and betrayal.

I like all the styles that are not fugly. :'D

No Game No Life has one of the best styles I've seen, along with Kami-sama No Inai Nichiyoubi....but I'm also partial to shoujo styles too. Yet I also like Durarara's style....yes, I guess you could say I like a variety of them....

I *do not* like styles that use BLAND colors....like Chobits made me want to stab my eyes out. D:

Art styles are why animation exists in the first place.

Ultra-realism is the only one I can't appreciate. Other than that, I want to see how many different ways to draw a human being people came up with.

Late 2000s, early 2010's have my fav anime character designs in general (probably because I got into anime with shows made in that time frame).

Anime is good, fucking deal with it.

I disliked how they changed aku no hana's anime art from the manga, just like how they changed gunslinger stratos art in the pv to the anime they have now due to low budget. Other than those I don't mind everything elses.

Rotoscoping is never a good idea.
I dunno, A Scanner Darkly looks pretty excellent, its just hard to do right and people hate when things are too different for whatever reason. Same reason why Ping Pong gets hate because its different, even though the character designs are fantastic and it does have pretty good animation outside of a few scenes.

Well, if every anime had the same art style, I would get really sick of it. Just like how I'm sick of hearing Kirito and Tomoya's(Clannad) voice actors, because they are in like 3 animes a season that I am watching.

You people do realise that Ping Pong the Animation's art style was just being faithful to its manga... some art styles suit certain anime better than others, NGNL's bright colours matched its theme. Ping Pong showed that not everything is skin deep. Kinda like that.
"There's no shame in falling down... true shame is to not stand up again!"

"Aah? Of course I won't miss!"

"My blood tastes like Iron."

I use to like unusual art styles. A lot.
For example, I liked the art from Ping Pong. Its ugly, but it suits very well the anime (yes, my engrish is awful).

On the other hand, I use to dislike generic art styles.

Its got some 3DGI for some of the heavier action scenes but I'm pretty sure its not rotoscoped.

Like I mentioned previously, A Scanner Darkly is rotoscoped and it looks amazing but its also a western movie.

Yes that is in fact Keanu Reeves.

all of my favorites have their own art style. for me, art is not even important. yes they have impact in score, but not in story at all.

I guess it depends on how you define rotoscoping, I've always heard that it refers to painting over live footage but those examples are painting over 3D models which I guess is sort of a different style of rotoscoping.

I'm pretty open minded so there aren't many shows with artstyles that bother me too much. Aku no Hana looked like garbage but that was less a problem with the general idea of rotoscoping and more to do with the horrendously piss poor execution.

Oh yeah, and that fucking incest show with the monkey ears. I've never even seen the show but I can't help but wonder 'Does the author think this is cute?'

More diversity means more tastes to be met ergo more people attracted to the medium.

Can't see anything wrong with that.
