YES!

YES! YES! YES!

http://www.pcgamer.com/new-steam-refund-policy-lets-you-get-your-thatmoney-back-for-any-reason/

You can refund steam games for practically any reason as long as you have played the game for less than two hours and purchased it within a 14-day timeframe.

THIS IS A BIG MIDDLE FINGER TO $20 WALKING SIMULATORS AND SHITTY INDIE "ART" GAMES LIKE GONE HOME AND DEAR ESTHER

Now we'll see more indie games have a focus on things like replayability!

I wonder what made them decide to do this?

Too many crap games being greenlit?

I think Steam is starting to realize that it has to comply with consumer laws, even if it's headquarters is not in that country. I'm wondering if they were legitimately worried about losing the suit filed by Australia or if there was some other legal concern brought to their attention.

You'll notice in the subscriber agreement for example, they have had to make specific allowances, especially in the EU. Prior to this, they used local law for their policy, i.e. Luxembourg , where Steam is registered as far as Europe (it's Washington for NA). However, now it is worded to specifically state that if your country of residence has greater consumer rights than that of Luxembourg, then your countries rights will apply.

There are also numerous other places they have amended the agreement, to specifically comply with other countries laws, that they had been basically ignoring before.

It more likely because they wanna bring paid mods back. But that is not unexpected. Noting how it works with DLC as well.

Still impresses me that Value is actually doing something.

Wish I could get a refund for the copy of Left 4 Dead 2 I got last Halloween, the community ruins it.

They are right around that and I'm sure some will abuse it, but overall I agree, there are easier ways to pirate rather than abusing a refund policy, so I don't see much appeal.

I doubt it works that way, but it would be hilarious if people pulled that through. I'd applaud them. My bet is that staff would go through each request and deny cases where it's abuseable, like refunds for 2h long games.

Good if the productions are big.
Bad for indie developers whose games are small and don't take long to complete.

Bad only for developers who make shit games. Devs who make good games will benefit, since customers will be more likely to buy when there's less risk of getting stuck with a turd, and if the game is good they'll play it instead of getting a refund.

Another effect is that this move will encourage punters to buy from the Steam store rather than third party keysellers.

Great news, it was also about time it happened. No more buying games and then ending up regretting it because it's not my taste/it's just terrible in general!

This is nothing to be praised.
There should have been an appropriate refund system when the Steam service first started.

Still not going to buy games on it.
