I don't disagree with her points, but I would have phrased them much differently. The classification and focus on "casuals" and "elitists" in the anime community is completely fucking ridiculous. Piling on others for liking or disliking a certain thing is even worse. Someone enjoys Sword Art Online? Good for them. Please leave them alone. We're all watching anime, and that's the lowest of the low; there is no superiority here.

i dont usually watch youtube but since its just 4 mins here are my thoughts on that vid

agree:
when talking bout subjective stuff, using 'i like .." or '.. is not my style' is better than '... is shit' or '.. is good'

disagree:
black and white way of classifying people , not mentioning lord and saviour archeon

Well, the first problem with the situation is that every fandom hates each other. Understandably, everyone thinks their favorite show is better than others, but it seems the best way to confirm this to compare their favorites to every other show by bashing them to high heaven. It's a sense of insecurity, where certain fans can't be proud of their favorites without it being better than someone else's favorite.

Second is reinforcing the separation by grouping fans into some arbitrary hierarchy of tastes. There's an obsession with grouping things here, and it just doesn't work. Someone liking some Sora no Otoshimono is not immediately better than someone who likes Revolutionary Girl Utena. The Sora no Otoshimono person could have liked it since it's a chill escape from their frustrating life, and it serves as a way to wind down and enjoy a silly show without having to resort to crass pornography for a temporary high. On the flip side, the person who liked Revolutionary Girl Utena could have only enjoyed yuri/yaoi and couldn't care less about anything else. It's not the show, it's the individual. Yet, there's always going to be that stigma of liking certain shows. Perhaps it's because certain shows draw certain crowds, which is why saying "I like Naruto" or "I like Texhnolyze" carry such strikingly different images, even before the person explains why they like their respective shows.

Third is the nature of the reviews themselves. They always come down to basic summaries, reviewer gimmicks, and relying too heavily on surface-level opinions. It's the difference between "this anime is good/bad" and "I think this anime is good/bad." While it's subtle, the latter places importance on the reviewer's credibility, rather than the merits of the show itself. I'm in the belief that every anime is someone's favorite, ironically and unironically. I have yet to know of a show that garners universal hatred, just as I've never seen a show which is praised the pinnacle of anime. I also believe that every show can be enjoyed for a non-base and idiotic reason. Even the worst show has worth in how hilariously absurd it may be, or the lessons learned in what not to do in anime. With reviews however, I don't see this acknowledged as much.

I don't actively watch video reviews, as I find text reviews to be better since they don't have visual and audible gags to distract. However, for a show that I like personally, I'll look up video reviews since I'm always curious to see the opinion of others. Rather than being concerned with if they're given high scores, I'm concerned with how reviewer addresses their audience. I know these shows, and I know of their problems. No anime is without problems, just as no anime is without merit, so seeing my favorites praised for the wrong reason bothers me as more than them being criticized for the right reasons. This doesn't really come across though. It's always "hi I'm a quirky reviewer, here's a show, here's a summary of the show, here's my opinion on it, and here's my rating. See you next time!"

When doing a review, it's important to do the audience justice. For a review that is inaccurate, misleading, or uninformative, it's not just a worthless review, but it's harmful. People will listen to those reviews. That's what I'm afraid of.

Kind of agree with her points, but what she is doing is still pointless. People who are mature enough will keep these things in mind and kids who are still in elementary/middle school (and ofc immature adults) won't care about it even if you tell them.

This applies to not just anime reviewing but also everything in general.

I don't need anyone to tell me whether something is good or bad, I have the ability to determine that for myself. Thus I have no use for reviews or reviewers. I am not afraid of making mistakes, and don't feel the need to be "validated" by people agreeing with me. I can be the only person in world who likes something and that's completely fine with me, because I like it.

Apparently a lot of people on youtube liked it.
Anyhow I do agree with her points. I don't like the idea that we have to discriminate against others for their different tastes. Or that someone gets to pretend they're smarter than you because they like 'intellectual' shows. Of course painting things black and white like she did was a little wrong, but that was youtube, where the regular masses come to go and watch anime that has been put on by unofficial channels, and they need things to be simple.
