[color=gray]Just don't forget the thermal paste.

Also, pcpartpicker.com is a great website for making a list of all the parts you'll need. Not only will the site find the cheapest online retailer for each part, but it will also tell you if all your parts are compatible.

I'll just give you a couple tips:

- Invest in a motherboard that fits intel cpus. Intel >>>>>>>>>> AMD. Even if you can't afford a super high quality cpu now, at least you'll have the option to upgrade to something sick in the future.
- Use an intel cpu.
- One of the best video cards on the market right now is the xfx r9-290x. If you can afford it, get one of those.
- Get a motherboard with 2 cpu fan slots, that way you can use a water cooling fan (much better than stock).
- Get an ssd. It allows you to boot up your pc WAY faster.

PCPartPicker is pretty good for checking compatibility and sharing your build.

So, I came to the conclusion that building a gaming PC is cheaper than buying. Unfortunately, my knowledge of specific computer parts isn't that great.
I talked to a few people and ended up with this.

It's not complete yet, but I'd appreciate any advice you guys could have on changes or additions. I'd say my budget is probably at most 2k, but if I don't need to go that high, I would rather not.

Have a look at this. Its a much cheaper alternative but I'm not sure what do you plan to do with your PC. You can bump it up to GTX 980 but I feel that the price/performance isn't worth the money.
