I've been looking for a more serious vibe with a lot of feels. Burnt out on the feel good/happy go lucky.

+1 Kino is mostly serious but not too much feels, while Natsume is not overly serious but packs a lot of feels. Both are very atmospheric.

I don't know whether you've watched these, but they fit:

Fullmetal Alchemist 2003
Code Geass
Saiunkoku Monogatari
Kokoro Connect
Seirei no Moribito
Monster
Sakamichi no Apollon
Fate/Zero
Kemono no Souja Erin
Steins;Gate
Tokyo Magnitude
Kingdom
Rose of Versailles
Emma: A Victorian Romance

H&C is a very melancholic and bittersweet series despite its seemingly light and comedic nature.

+1 for NHK too

Shigatsu maybe but its drama is a bit overdone >_>
