A Certain Magical Index (light novel)
| So i'm planning to watch this Toaru no Majutsu Index. But then i see this anime called Toaru no kagaku railgun. Can you guys tell me what's the difference between them? Are they the same? Cos i see some same characters in both anime. Which one should i watch first? |

| Same universe, but two different perspectives from two different main characters. I'd say watch the two Index seasons first since it's the main series, then move onto Railgun which tells the other half of Index's story. Also, Railgun is typically seen as better, so it's a nicer transition going from Index to Railgun. This all assumes that you can make the time investment to watch everything of course. |
| Index follows Touma and focuses on his story. Railgun follows Misaka and focuses on hers. Both appear consistently in each others show but there's really only one major arc that happens in both which is the Sister Arc which happens in Index S1 and Railgun S2. The best animated arc and far better in Railgun but would recommend watching both versions. Railgun is more cute girls doing cute things with Misaka being badass every now and then while Index feels more plot oriented but it's mostly just Touma's ultra back luck and getting involved in everything. He even has a catchphrase for his bad luck. I'm not sure how others would recommend it but I would honestly just watch it by air date. |
