| Well, there's no known reason why right handedness is more prevalent, however, there are some factors and correlations, such as: 1) Genetic disposition: It's suggested that there are genetic factors that do affect the handedness and there's a chance of its inheritability. 2) Brain division: usually the left side of the brain controls motor skills and as you may know, the left side of the brain also controls the right side of the body 3) Nurture: the environment we grow up in and the culture/society affect our behavior including our handedness, my mother is a lefty but she was forced to use her right hand for everything while growing up because that was the "correct" hand to use. Anywho, I'm right handed but when I had my "carpal tunnel release" surgery, I started using my left hand and now I'm pretty good at using both. (My handwriting sucks either way ~) |
