I finished this series a lonnng time ago and its one of my favorites and I looked back on this and read the genre and it said shounen. When I saw this I got a heavy senien vibe from it from all the events, the swearing, and I always thought shounen as Bleach, naruto, dbz. You know... stuff for kids. I don't mind it being shounen its just that I found it really weird that this is considered a shounen and was wondering how is this a shounen?

Shonen/ Seinen are just age demographics that magazines are published by, they don't strictly apply to Anime.

The Manga that was published alongside this series was serialized in a shonen magazine.

Attack on Titan which is also in your favorites is regarded as shounen as well. Outside of target market the term doesn't mean anything, a series aimed at kids can have themes that would interest people of a higher age group.
