Ep 1 [spoiler] So far this has had the best first impression on me from all of the Spring 2015 shows. I really like the idea of having an urban fantasy. I guess you could also consider it sci-fi though. I think the creatures were referred to as demons though, so I guess urban fantasy would make more sense. Anyway the world was really interesting and I'm looking forward to learn more about it and the limited world building this episode was quite enjoyable. The main character seems to have a lot of mental issues so far... especially some self-esteem problems. I think he should be less worried about his height and try to do something about his eyes which seem to be permanently closed. I see Golgo 13 isn't the only one that has been spreading his genes throughout the anime industry. The fight scenes were the highlights of the episode for me. They were just so stylized, fluid and captivating. Especially the one with Zap and the green demon. Klaus' scene was quite good too, I really look forward to more of him, I'd say hes got to be my favorite character so far. Lastly the jazzy OST is a huge plus for me. So yeah Trigun/Gungrave creator doesn't disappoint. |

Episode 1 Well, I have put early faith in many of these "way cool" super power series before and been disappointed (ZKC:tU, Tokyo ESP, Code:Breaker, Hamatora, etc). So, I'll keep my expectations in check for now, though I did enjoy this first episode. It did feel quite a bit different than the previously mentioned anime, especially in overall quality, so that is a good thing. Anime like this with cool powers and lots of fighting/action tend to fizzle out early for me. Hopefully, the world in this one and plot carries it through. I liked it just not quite as much as I hoped I would. 100% agree on the jazz OST. I fist-pumped when that insert song started playing in the second half of the episode. Good stuff. |

I haven't seen Gungrave, but the Trigun anime is basically the director's interpretation of Nightow's manga (source material looks quite different from what I've seen). Similarly, this shows Rie Matsumoto putting her own spin on it: https://twitter.com/capothotep/status/584947552375582721 It's actually much closer to Matsumoto's last anime, Kyousougiga. If you haven't seen it, you can find a few of the same visual ideas in the OP alone: huge close-ups of kanji, visual camera as an actual camera, reflections and crosses. Other things include the eccentricity of the antagonist, huge windows, repetitive geometry, spotlight and flower framing. Beyond being a stylish shonen, she could very easily return to a theme of family again: "Even if there's nothing wrong, families worry about you, right?" Another alternative would be moving forward with "...but wouldn't they be happier if they were faithful to their own desires?", which Femt says while tossing the forbidden fruit into the air and these two themes don't have to be mutually exclusive either. Also, the fact that Matsumoto's included her own anime-only character (who will be introduced next week) is telling of how she's making this hers. Not really gonna post in anything else besides JoJo from now on, just thought I'd clear that up. :D |

Ep 2 [spoiler] Yep, definitely AOTS for me. Kyousougiga was my favorite during the season it aired, so I'm not surprised I'm enjoying this too. Matsumoto's style is pretty distinct despite this being only her 2nd directing job. Looking forward to more of her projects in the future. I have enjoyed all of Nightow's stuff though, so he has to have something going for him lol. Anyway this episode was geat, OST, animation, characters acting quirky as hell, but not to the point of being annoying. Even though the MC looks kinda silly at least he has a good reason for why his eyes look closed all the time. Also wish we got to see more of Klaus, but I feel like Zapp is taking over for my favorite with idgaf personality lol. Also guessing that "ghost' at the end of the episode was the anime original char. She looks kinda like MC's sister, maybe just a coincidence though. |

Episode 2 Hmm, I'm having a hard time getting into this. So much action. The designs and animation are pretty great though. I'll stick with it for now, but I hope this isn't going to stay so action-heavy. Re: Episode 2 I re-watched this episode again as I was a bit too intoxicated the first time. It was a lot better than I thought. It seems Leo's eyes can project his own visions into others. Also, I'm not exactly sure how the van flipped. It seemed as if he had done something similar to making them see the monkey, but maybe a blurry/psychedelic vision. He said they will get sick and then he says "plain eyes." Anyway, that part was interesting, so I look forward to further explanations for his eye's powers. Also, Zapp's blood stream technique there was pretty cool. The ghost girl at the end sure was enthusiastic :P. |

Ep 3 [spoiler] Man this OST.... is just too good. When Ode to Joy started playing slowly in the background I was already pretty amped but the they got the choir going when he finally won and it was just such an epic moment. I now realize that pretty much nothing happened this episode and we really didn't learn anything lol. Yet I was still fully entertained by the amazing directing and OST. I think I still like Zapp better than Klaus at this point though. Zapp just seems like a lot more fun to be around. I hope for some actual plot next ep, but it will probably still be great without it lol. |

Episode 3 This was my favorite episode of the series so far. We didn't really learn anything like bato said, but the entire sequence of events was really interesting to me. I get bored with non-stop action sequences, so I'm glad they had a less chaotic episode. Plus, I love chess and this is like an insane version of it. Though we don't know any of the rules, it was still cool to see the interactions between the demon-boss with the ridiculous name and his two challengers. Also, dude has put 1,200 years into the game. Wow. Nice to see Klaus power through and defy the odds. I agree that the music has been fantastic throughout the series. The OP is starting to grow on me now, along with the already excellent ED. I'm going to go back and watch episode two again because I have already forgotten everything from it. I was a bit distracted that day anyway, along with all the action sequences :P. Anyway, good stuff this episode. |

Ep 4 [spoiler] Looks like we're moving toward having an actual plot with these vampire people now. Action scene was alright, but this episode definitely seemed a lot less "stylized" compared to the last 3. Also the bit about the vampires taking over the battleship is likely a nod to Hellsing as both series ran in the same magazine. Hopefully they explain whats up with the ghost girl too, she was entirely absent from this episode iirc. |

Episode 4 Well, they showed the ghost girl at the very end of the episode, but just briefly. I'm pretty interested in the Vampires. I wonder why he can't look at them without hurting his eyes? They seem pretty OP, but they were no much for Klaus it seems. I got a little confused at the end of the episode when it showed Leo on the train again. I'm not sure if the vampire was actually there, or he was imagining it. Oh well, I don't think it is too important. There were a couple of moments that showed off the style, mainly the camera movement in the subway/vampire fight scene. I agree though, there was less flair this episode. Still, I enjoyed it and look forward to the rest of this vampire story. |

Ep 5 [spoiler] Liked this episode quite a bit more than the last. Nice to see Ghost girl helping Leo out with his self-esteem issues. Not really sure what to think about the new characters... dat naming though lol XD Hummer Dog. I don't really think we've seen enough of him for me to really form a proper opinion. The new villain girl I found mostly irritating and a fairly boring stereotype, but that might just be a rash observation. Also @ at watching an Arnie movie at the end XD |

Episode 5 Haha, yeah Twins making its way into any anime is pretty hilarious :P. It seems Leo and the ghost girl are going to give us some light-hearted romance here. Pretty much this whole episode I was just imagining the damage cost to the city and amount of deaths that came from this incident. Then they actually mentioned the death count, lol. This series is pretty insane. I also didn't much care for the villain in this episode. Though, her experiment was pretty interesting. Hummer Dog was cool. I like his concept and design. |

Ep 6 [spoiler] To be honest I didn't really care that much for this episode. I mean the mushroom guy was okay... but yeah I just never really felt bad for him, cause he doesn't seem to feel any pain and I know this sounds horrible, but he was making these like this weird moaning/squeaking sounds when he got hit and I just couldn't take it seriously. The insert songs were great though and now we got Black and White... lol |

Episode 6 Ah, really? I felt so bad for the little mushroom guy. I'd imagine it hurt him some or he wouldn't have had the spore explosion the first time. At the very least, he was scared for his own life it seemed. I really, really enjoyed this episode. Though, I'm a sucker for inequality conflict/issues, so I may be a little biased. This episode helped me like Leo's character more. Also, Black is the vampire from the train, or...? I guess we shall find out soon enough. |

Ep 7 [spoiler] I guess I've gotten used to the episodic nature of these episodes. I gotta say I got a lot more respect for Klaus now... even though he can be a simp as Zapp puts it. Also I'm guessing Shiro is somehow related to the vampires and Femt''s crew, considering her brothers involvement. |

Ep 8 [spoiler] I had to google Gestaltzerfall effect. Apparently it's when you look at a kanji and you start to internalize it... interesting. Anyway kinda disappointed in Zapp... living his life is such excess. Not even hint of discipline or self-control. Getting all crazy over a woman like that... I'm disappoint. His master on the other hand is pretty badass. Looking forward to more of him and the junior apprentice. |

Episode 8 Some interesting developments here involving Black & White. It seems their parents were killed, possibly by vampires? I guess vampires can possess people in this series or maybe he is just a vampire with a split-personality? Or it could be something completely different, of course. Anyway, Zapp's actions at the beginning reminded me of myself a bit, except for waking up beside beautiful women :P. Well, at the very least, I'm with him on the sick/hungover front today. It was also pretty cool to see where Zapp had learned his skill. I loved the design of the master, but I wouldn't expect anything less from this series. Character design and the creativity behind them is top notch across the board. Edit: I also looked up Gestaltzerfall, but I don't think it only relates to kanji. I think it is just repeated shapes/characters in general. |

Ep 9 [spoiler] Yeah I was kinda suspicious of White from the start. I wonder if she was only following orders from her brother to get close to Leon or if she actually did that on her own accord. Either way so much for WhitexLeon shipping... well idk I guess they'll pull something out later and have a "true love prevails" type ending... although I find it really sappy and unrealistic it's better than "I only got close to you so I could literally rip out your eyes and take them" lol. Aside from that some great battle scenes. Sakuga fans rejoice. Junior apprentice seems like hes gonna be joining the crew too so looking forward to more of him. |

Episode 9 So, Black wants Leo's eyes and White is suppose to be the one getting close to him to take them. That little flashback there with White's dad telling her to stop Leon if he ever tries to hurt anyone could be foreshadowing the next set of events. I'd imagine White tries to stop Black somehow. Anyway, also interested in the new Fish-Guy joining the crew. Should be fun. |

Ep 10 [spoiler] Well just straight up asking for his eyes is one approach... Aside from that really fun episode. Felt very much like something out of Space Dandy or even Cowboy Bebop. Kinda random, but yeah just lots of fun and Fish guy makes a nice new addition to the cast. |

Episode 10 Agree with you guys/gals. Fun episode for the most part and Fish Guy has fit-in with the cast right away. Some of the food places were really crazy, lol. It seems next week might be a recap by the sounds of that preview. Don't know why they would need a recap for a 1 cour series though. Oh well. |

Eo 11 [spoiler] So we got a flashback episode. I gotta say this didn't really do much for me though. I feel like they were trying way to hard to make us sympathize with White and gloss over/excuse the fact that she completely screwed over Leo and betrayed his feelings and trust. Honestly for all the crying and kind words she had to say, the fact that she didn't even attempt to step in when her brother was being bullied makes her feelings toward him seem disingenuous. I'm not saying flashbacks can't be executed well, but this episode just didn't work for me. |

Episode 11: Yeah, this was kind of a disappointment after last episode. I mean, it was perfectly serviceable, and in a way I like that White was portrayed like this instead of being all heroic in her past. Much more realistic. But I'm already over this episode lol and waiting eagerly for the finale. |

Episode 11 I actually really liked the episode. The Black x White story was something I have been interested in since they first mentioned some of their background. Their sympathy for the devil approach worked for me here. For the people I can consider family, I would have done the same as White. I agree with Sandi on White feeling much more realistic as a character now. As for White not stepping in to help Black, he has the ability to defeat those bullies in a flash. He is purposely not doing it for his own reasons. If she stepped in, one, she wouldn't be able to do much against the three of them anyway, and two, she would be going against her brother's own wishes/values. I didn't have a problem with that scene. It would have been more stereotypical anime for her to have stepped in, imo. Anyway, I'm looking forward to the finale. I'm going to miss this series. It has easily been my favorite of the season. |

Ep 12 [spoiler] So it's finally done. The episode seemed to be about 2 times longer than usual. Some great fights as usual, but I wasn't all that engaged in the plot to be honest. At one point Kuro was regarded as a force field or something? yeah... Overall I liked the show, but in terms of story it kind of fell apart. I feel like the stuff with White and Black felt forced in and the episodic structure didn't help all that much. Some characters were interesting, but most didn't do much for me. Also that long wait for the finale kind of had me hyped, but didn't really meet my expectations. So yeah 6/10 |

Episode 12: Ahhh~ I was pretty satisfied with this, actually! I wanted a little something extra for the finale considering the wait we had, but oh well, it was fine really! The animation is still gorgeously smooth and the comedic touches, although few in this episode, were still good. I very much look forward to season 2. Maybe I'm being generous, but there was a lot I loved about this series and I find it terribly interesting and quite different to a lot of other shows out there, so I'm gonna go ahead and bump it to a low 8/10 ^^ |

Episode 12 So, they pretty much gave us a double episode for the finale, nice! Idk, I kind of enjoyed all the White and Black drama. The animation was excellent throughout. While I did like the main characters well enough, some of the side characters in this were greatness, like the little mushroom guy <3. The setting with all the zany characters and locations were pretty awesome as well. I really enjoyed this series and would also love a season 2. I gave it a 8/10, (82%). |
