Can someone tell me about the real history event regarding this episode?

It's been pretty accurate overall. Only major discrepancy is the exact ships that are with Akagi and friends in the Kido Butai. Everything else is fitting about into place, even in the actual sequence of events during the battle itself.

To summarise, the RL Operation MI was intended to secure Japans outer defense perimeter, and lure the American fleet to the decisive battle. To do this almost the entire fleet was committed in some way, shape, or form. The plan was ludicrously complex, but basically was that the carriers would attack Midway and provide cover for an invasion force, while the main battlefleet would be lying in wait to attack the American fleet Yamamoto thought would sortie from Pearl Harbor to stop the attack on Midway. There was also an attack on the Aleutian Islands as a distraction.

However, the Americans had broken the Japanese code and had managed to piece together most of the Japanese plan. Basically, instead of the American fleet being at Pearl, then sortieing in response to the Japanese attack, the American fleet was already in position waiting for the Japanese fleet to arrive.

The battle itself began with a Japanese air strike on Midway Island itself. While it did damage things, it failed to completely disable the airfield. Several attacks by American land based bombers were launched at the Japanese carriers, but these failed to do any damage.

This is when the major issues began. Nagumo's orders were to neutralise Midway airfield, and he was preparing a second strike in order to do just that. However, several things happened at once. The scout planes launched from Tone finally reported that the Ameircan fleet was in the area, and the commander of the Japanese carrier forces (Nagumo) on Akagi was faced with a dilemna. His existing planes were being rearmed with GP bombs for use on the airfields, and an effective strike on ships would need those bombs to be swapped for AP bombs and torpedoes. However, if he did this, he would be launching planes just as the planes from the initial Midway attack were returning. Nagumo's final decision was to let the Midway attack planes land, during which the other planes could be rearmed for a naval attack, and then launch an attack on the American carriers.

However, as the strike on the American carriers was about to launch, the American strike forces arrived. Due to differing speeds and difficulty finding the Japanese, the first to arrive were the torpedo planes, which were hacked out of the sky without scoring any hits. However, this drew most of the Japanese fighters out of position so they were unable to intercept the American dive bombers which arrived later. The dive bomber attack quickly put Akagi, Kaga, and Soryu out of action, leaving Hiryu the only active Japanese carrier.

At this point in the anime, we're going through the American carrier strike. Things have been pretty much accurate, even minor details (e.g. just like in reality, Tone had issues launching her scouts, which caused the Japanese to be taken by surprise when the American carriers appeared). Every time they did something which held to real life, I got a bit more tense. Guess we'll see next week whether they're going to stick to accuracy or not. I really hope not.

...Bloody anime making me root for the IJN at Midway.

Also, the original order of battle that Nagato handed Akagi was the historic order of battle. Akagi's dream at the start of the episode was the outcome of that. The bombs from the dive bombers damaged the carriers beyond repair under the circumstances, but not in a way that they would quickly sink. So to prevent the carriers from being captured and examined by the US, and to free their escorts for other duties, once it became apparent that a ship was a loss and would have to be abandoned, Maikaze and the other destroyers were ordered to scuttle the doomed carrier with torpedoes.

Aww, Kitakami doesn't have Ooi by her side.

Well this battle got intense as fuck.

I have a feeling Akagi is going to get saved. They raised all of these deathflags...but they just kept repeating and repeating how all Akagi wants is for fate to change. So I'm assuming it will.

Didn't play the game, but that Airfield Princess looks pretty cool. Got some nice big "plot" going on. I thought I remember seeing a lot of fan art of her as a loli or baby though.

Looks like there was a Wo Class Kai, a regular Wo Class, and a few others in that sneak attack.

Kind of a shame how that Abyssal from episode 1 with the shield, and Airfield Princess only showed up once the whole season. I assumed they were powerful enemies and would have more screen time.

Really wanted to see Yamato fight after she had her own little ready-up moment.

Right after that scene...who was that girl standing on the rock cliff???

This show is selling so retardedly and absurdly well, I'm sure we'll definitely see a second season or movie etc. Especially with all of the other popular ship girls that didn't make it into the show (Bismark, Prinz, Hayashimo)

Gotta love MALs rating for this. 6.9 because everyone outside of Japan rides the hate train...yet it doesn't even matter slightly when the pre-orders for vol.01 of this were more than a lot of other shows combined. lol

Damn, that episode went by so fast I was honestly angry and thought it was shortened lol.

That Nagato x Mutsu scene made me doki. Now I'm gonna have to search for all the doujin.

Kitakami didn't sink... right? I'd hate to see Oicchi's reaction to that when the battle is done. Her death was heartbreaking, realizing Oicchi wasn't there and then... boom.

Akagi should be okay so I'm not worried about her, but that scream at the end made me tense up.

And next episode is the last? Well, if this IS selling very well, we'll probably get a movie, or an OVA... hopefully a second season. I need more.

So who gets sunk this episode? is it confirmed? Or will we have to wait to see the damage?

I don't think Akagi is going to be saved. It just doesn't make any sense for Fubuki to save her, and they better not pull that bs to alter the 'fate' of Akagi.

Oh god, my nerves were tense during this episode, more than I wanted it to be.
A bit dumb to leave the escort behind, it seemed like Nachi carried another mission paper.
A broken bow is so lame during a battle, oh no. can't she just throw the arrows in the air?

I still doubt they will show us more than one death ship next episode, maybe everyone will get massive damages. I can imagine Fubuki shooting down the bomb last minute to save her friend, but also the opposite...

I looked more like Kitakami-san gave up on living instead of evading the torpedos

Different character. The loli one you saw is Northern Princess AKA Hoppou-chan.

-Reflects the historic decision of the past. Can't really say it's dumb, as the situation was a dilemma. It's a lose-lose situation.

-Reflects how the in-game mechanics works, Moderate damage (shown by visual damage of the clothes and rigging) will make them not able to launch their planes.
Just for the sake of the argument, what if that arrow needs a certain amount of speed before transforming? That explains why throwing at it with bare hands is impossible.
This is also supported by the plane mechanics of other Aircraft carriers that doesn't use a bow and arrow.
For example, Ryuujou/Junyou/Hiyou (Not in the anime). These 3 Carriers uses Shikigami as planes, and their means of making them fly is by using a magic scroll.
There's only one exception the the whole rule, but that might be a spoiler.

Well in a good situation 4 big carriers can probably protect themself when having enough fighers in the sky.
In history the fleet could shoot most planes down of the first waves, but not the dive bombers in the end since they were at a higher altitude.
In the Game it's still better to have supporting ships that have decent AA abilities.

Ah that makes sense, I mainly felt sorry for Akagi that she was rendered useless just because of a broken bow string,
her flight deck was also messed up, but otherwise she could have had at least supported the comrades who could still fight.

Pretty obvious (95% sure) Fubuki is going to save Akagi. Why else would the admiral specifically ask her to be remodeled and be her escort only to fail her mission. Don't really see this series ending on a tragic note. It would really surprise me if she does die though lol

Pretty gripping episode despite that cliffhanger timing. >_<

Death flags were everywhere in the first half of the episode and, considering how much Akagi's group is in deep shit right now, I do see some of the girls sinking.

Hopefully Yamato's group can get there and help in time, but it might be too late to save all of them. D=

Akagi's death flag everywhere in this episode. She's definitely will not die there not yet, maybe.
We know that Fubuki will definitely come to the rescue. Obvious plot device is obvious. Let's see if they can surprise me in the next episode if they try different gimmicks or something.

Here some theories from my wild guess:
1. That "fate" Akagi's called maybe their WWII history that drag their future to similar fate. As we know, Kanmusu are the soul of the IJN fleet which means they can still fight that fate and change their future, ofc that's not easy as they're subconciously dragged by that fate.
2. The Admiral noticed that to avoid repeat their greatest lost in the Battle of Midway, which is inflicting devastating and irreparable damage on the IJN in the WWII history, he need great Anti-aircraft which is lack that time. That's why he persistent to remodelled Fubuki to her Kai Ni ASAP and mentioned that Fubuki is the key to success on the upcoming operation.
3. He also know that the enemy know their code, which IJN didnt know, so he do it more carefully (maybe something to do with the secret mission order that Nachi hold).

Anyway.. I wonder who's screaming Akagi's name in the last scene? Is that Fubuki?

I'm guessing Akagi and the girls are actually in a game, and the history they're talking about is the true Naval history as per our history books.

I'm also guessing that Bukki will indeed save the day with her upgrades and change the course of "history". Then they'll beat the Abyssals and alls well will end well.

Then, at end we'll have the world zoom out to some Otaku wearing an admiral's suit playing KaneColle on his console/mobile phone/etc. the show will end and we'll all realize that it was all just a game.

Now that would be a great troll.

It was a wrong move to leave Fubuki behind. I mean why train her for AA battle when you're not gonna use it? Since she's remodeled her AA is improve because of the equipped fire director.

I believe Fubuki will come to the rescue since this has happened before when she left Zuikaku and Shoukaku and manage to save them by following her instincts.

We haven't show Fubuki's AA capabilities yet, but it might be possible to shoot that bomb before it hits.

About Kitakami, if they follow history, she will be okay since she survived the battle of midway.

Overall the episode is interesting. Narration very focused on the upcoming battle, perhaps a bit too fast in the first part of the course.
The plot still has blind spots not well clarified, I hope you get to understand them well before the end. Opponents a bit too anonymous and not very present in history, greater participation in events and a better characterization, both in terms of character design that purely on the character, would make them much more interesting.
Not bad however the construction of the main characters, starting with Fubuki. Yamato makes her look good when it falls in battle.
Drawings and animations in the media, sets inconspicuous, very catchy soundtrack.
