| I find most good albums too emotional to decide on a favorite. My feelings towards the album can change depending on my mood. So while I might love an album sometimes, I might not consider it that great other times. |
Kanye West - My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy - This album had great production (As I would expect from someone like Kanye). - Great lyrics with memorable lines. - Fully embraced (I'm referring to "Power") his negative stance from the Media and took his Ego to whole new level (Which was truly fucking beautiful). - A cohesive album from the beginning to the end. - MBDTF Guest spots were handled very well. (Personally when I hear solo albums, I would rather not listen to other artists so I like to have features at a minimum) |
| In the Court of the Crimson King, because it's a beautiful, highly varied set of songs that went farther out than any popular music before it and was never matched in terms of quality after. I can overlook the comparatively weak improv section (I still like it) given the quality of everything else. I considered Selling England By the Pound too, and it might be even better, but it's a bit too mannered and doesn't have the raw power. It's like Mozart to KC's Beethoven. |
| The Knife - Silent Shout The culmination of my obsession with psychedelic music, dance music and reward-center heavy pop music influenced greatly by heavy marijuana and LSD use has led me to a single genre above all: Techno Pop. I feel that the modern masters of this genre are the Swedish, and at the top stands Karin Dreijer Andersson. Her solo project is Fever Ray, and her duo project(with her brother) is The Knife. This is my all-around favorite music, I love the shit out of it unconditionally. The smooth rhythms, the raw emotion, the dissonant but beautiful voice, the pleasant melodies offset by periods of uneasiness, it's absolutely perfect for me. I'm not even someone who cares much about lyrics but I happen to love the lyrics of both The Knife and Fever Ray. Much of their sound reminds me of the European dance floor, 80s action video games and nordic hymns. I highly recommend her solo album as well, and the album Deep Cuts, it has the pop hits on it that brought The Knife to international attention. One well-known song by them is "Heartbeats", recently covered by Jose Gonzales. Most people aren't aware that it's a cover of an '06 swedish techno pop song, the original is way cooler in my opinion. Jose Gonzales perverted it into some kind of sad love song instead of the twisted, confused song of sorrow, acceptance and brightness it originally was.  |

| Meteora by Linkin Park A few others include This is War by 30 Seconds to Mars, Modern Vampires of the City by Vampire Weekend, CAPS LOCK and PLAYER by Capsule, and Wolfgang Amadeus by Phoenix. I also listen to alot of Monstercat EPs. If you wanna go to that other kind of music, PARTY TIME by Claris and Guren no Yumiya single by Linked Horizon. |

| My Bloody Valentine - Loveless I've listened to it so many times... It's honestly gone beyond favorite. To the point I don't think it would be possible for me to find a better album even if it were somehow "objectively" better. Every time I put on the first track, Only Shallow, I end up listening to the whole thing. As for what it sounds like: picture the album cover as music. It sounds exactly like that. There so many subtle things going on with the guitars that I'm still finding things that are new to me. |
| Colony by In flames is probably my favorite album, mostly thanks to this but i really like pretty much all of the songs from it. Why? hard to explain, but i love the melodies, the song writing is great aswell (especially ordinary story) imo. I guess it gives of a certain feeling to me that i enjoy. Might aswell be some nostalgia to it aswell ^^ |

| Captain Beefheart and The Magic Band's "Trout Mask Replica". The music is so visceral and infused with so much energy. The slide guitar playing is superlative, the drumming feels very primitive, but is actually very complex, and the Captain's voice is startling. A somehow beautiful, yet cacophonous, album with many, many, great blues lines. (And in second place, Zappa's "We're Only In It For the Money", which is funny, cohesive, and features the world's most beautiful song: "The Idiot Bastard Son"). |
