Well, thanks to a lovely Anonymous at 4chan's /a/ I was able to watch this with mostly good subtitles a little early! The first thing I noticed was that the excellent animation has returned to normal!! That alone made the episode at least 50% better than episode 4.

I liked this episode quite a bit for many reasons, the first being that it was more serious and had a slower pace than the other four. Although it was a bit grey, I'm glad my eyes could rest for an episode. The living environment of this underground dwelling made me happy to see the glaring sun in the evenings :P Though it was slower paced, the action sequence at the end was still well done.

I lol'd long and hard when Yoko was asked to wear that bag to cover up her boobs, and I lol'd harder at Kamina and Simon's attempts to see her belly button, and was extremely happy when she pounded Kamina's lowly self into the ground for doing so. Yoko wa whore ja nai da ~

Lol at the Gainax references in the preview, ranging from Rei and Asuka to Gunbuster 2 characters.
Yoko > all of them~

Glad that the animation was back and Yoko is as hot as always but i wasn't too fond of the episode. I dont like the slower pace shown in this episode and the story really didnt appeal to me. I want my Gurren episodes to be fast, full of action, and full of Yoko.

And I know that I should have started TTGL ages ago, but I just never had the time. Now that I've seen the first 5 episodes, I really regret puting this off. Other than the animation of the 4th episode, I'm loving this show at the moment.

Okay episode, a little slow paced. I guess they felt like doing a slight satire on religion in this episode, and the drawing of the sticks reminded me of "The Lottery."

this episode was way too frustrating for me. i dont mind the slow pace story but the high priest annoyedme so much. oh, and the greyscale color was also a little frustrating.

wow, filler already, btw i consider filler an ep that reveals nothing about the plot, the characters, and otherwise would not be needed to understand the series.

Sigh...
Why would a person wear showy clothes if they don't want to be seen?

I'll just prefer to think she doesn't much like Kamina. That way she doesn't lose so many points in my book.

Old avatar and sig retired for now.

That was good... more serious with the drama of the village, but i still lol'd when they asked Yoko to cover up.. xD and Yoko beating up Kamina is always funny :D

The Gurren Lagann combination video is so cool :) Over the top yet still awesome...

This episode was okay. There seemed to be an underlying theme of religion being used as a tool. However, I won't go into it, because:
A- I can't be bothered.
B- I'm not getting my fingerprints on that particular crime scene (particularly on the internet).

Also, I still have grey-vision two minutes after watching!
Your search on "Oran Solus" returned the following quotes:
"Oran Solus? I know him. What a wanker. He still owes me a tenner." Oscar Wilde
"Oran, you're so intelligent and awesome <3" Bakayaro
"Oran's sexy." LolitaDecay
"Oran is a sophisticated penguin." Drybananna
"Oran is a Hand-Eye you faggots." EddieSpaghetti
"Oran for Prime Minister." the_prime_one

Not bad, but kinda boring. In the end, the priest really is a man looking for his village. I expected him to be more evil. I don't mind adding Rossiu to Team Gurren, but what about two children ? Obviously, they'll prove themselves useful later, but was it really needed ?

I don't get the complaints about the animation. The last episode was fine. In fact the story was better, and it was funnier. This episode was weak compared to the last one.

Good to see the animation back on track.

This episode looked promising and I thought the High Priest was actually evil, so I was a bit disappointed.

I didn't like the decision of turning the colors into grey.

It was hilarious seeing Yoko getting herself covered and beating Kamina xD, and it was also very funny when Kamina stood up to the High Priest.

I don't know why I'm still watching this show. Probably because of its action.
I hate the animation at all. It's not detailed that much. It's ugly.

One thing I hate in this show is its animation.

These quotes pretty much sum up my viewing experience of GL so far.

Was seriously considering dropping the show, as none of the first 4 episodes did anything for me. I'm not keen on the contemporary art style, ain't feeling much love for any of the characters yet and the humour is a little too off the wall even for me... I mean, mechas with moving faces?!

Then I came to this episode - could be considered filler for some, but it was the first to actually keep me interested all the way through. I dunno....guess I just like my anime a little slower paced and to tell a good story, rather than wall to wall shouty action scenes.

GL has, by no means, suddenly become brilliant for me - would still rate it be a 6.5 so far - but this episode convinced me to give the show another chance and stick it out until episode 10.

Myself I did not think of this as a filler. It introduced 3 new characters to the party, with their backstory, and that book will have a meaning later on.
If much episode 4 was a filler

Having seen the first 5 episodes now, I can't say I care much about this anime. Kamina is a pompous buffoon and Simon is a pussy. And I find the plot to be kind of ridiculous right now.

The only redeeming qualities atm is that homo guy is funny sometimes, and Yoko is a nice piece of ass. Otherwise I'm finding it to be pretty dull.

I didn’t really like this episode mainly for its subject matter. I always cringe when anime portrays a monotheistic religion, especially Christianity or something clearly made in imitation of it. With only one percent of Japan’s population being Christian, it is understandable that the majority of Japan does not understand Christianity. What is unfortunate is that anime almost always portrays Christianity (or its anime imitations) negatively, which only goes to reinforce negative stereotypes. While I’m sure there are people here who may agree with anime’s portrayal of Christianity and some who don’t, I hope we can all agree that doing so is bad if it stems from ignorance instead of personal inquiry.

I found this episode significantly worse than the others it was nice to see other villages at first but the episode as a whole made me realize that my rating of this anime may very well rest on Yoko's shoulders. Though maybe this episode was just an anomaly and the rest will be just as enjoyable even if Yoko isn't present as much.

Yoko ftw.

Not much to say about the episode itself, it seemed pretty much like every other anime that tackles strange religion, but I do appreciate the attention drawn to Yoko's sexy ass body. She's a work of art, that girl :3

I laughed when the weirdo called her out on her... ehem... risque outfit (or lack of one) :P

But hey, now we know why she dresses like she does - Freedom of movement! I don't know if i buy that but whatever - It's anime xD
