The mosquitoes are supposed to reduce the spread of dengue fever and chikungunya but methods that are currently in use have eradicated dengue fever from the state and if people used spray or lotions containing DEET more, people wouldn't get chikungunya as often. Also, while it was tested in Brazil and the Cayman Islands with success, there's the worry of any allergic reactions to the mosquitoes or the concern that some of the offerspring do not die and start breeding with local non-gmo mosquitoes. It needs more testing before anymore releases happen.

1) Fail title is fail. No tyranny here. They're trying to do good.

2) It's only male mosquitoes, and does not change the saliva. Since only female mosquitoes bite humans, and the saliva is the source of allergic reactions, there's no reason to believe there are any possible allergy issues.

3) The mosquitoes are non-native, so this is going after an invasive species. These are very bad for local environments, and cause a lot of economic damage as well. If this works for the mosquitoes, it could be applied to other invasive populations to get them under control as well. Ironically, many anti-GMO people do make a big deal about invasive species, so they're getting what they want, but complaining about how. It's not like any other ideas have worked.

Agree with the points stated. It's mostly a good thing carrying a small risk. There's always the risk of random mutation and genetics not working the way we expect it to, but other than that it's all good.
