Accel World (light novel)
| I just finished watching Accel World today, and I was wondering if it's ever going to get a second season. I heard that Reki Kawahara said he was interested in making another one back in 2013, but Sunrise was too busy. |

He was very interested in getting it through (he's trying to get a lot of his works animated), especially because he's written 17 volumes and counting for Accel World while only 4 are animated. It really depends. If Sunrise doesn't announce anything new and save Gintama', they seem to have roughly 1 or 2 24-25 episode airing blocks unaccounted for in 2015, and once they're done with the Love Live movie in Spring, keep your fingers crossed. Accel World Season 1 aired in April 2012 until September 2012 - there seems to be the same amount of time open for Sunrise in 2015. |

| That's true, a lot of other anime didn't have the best sales but we're continued anyway. Since Reki is interested in animating it, I'm sure he is going to try his best to make it happen. Hopefully we'll see it around April or later this year. |

| So judging from what everyone is saying on here, and from the discussions from Reki said himself, it's not a matter of if, but when. I mean, it'll be 3 years old this spring. But there are sales, demand, and interest from both the creator and the studio, just no time to spend on the project. There was a solid 2 years between SAO seasons. Shit, look at Durarara. Though I will say if it does happen, I think it would have to happen soon. I would have to guess sometime in 2015. 3 years is kind of the limit for long stretches between seasons. Durarara is basically the exception. Attack on Titan season 2 will be in 2016 so that's another show with a solid 3 year gap. Basically f we don't even get an announcement in 2015, then I wouldn't expect a second season to happen. |

Accel World was actually a pretty solid seller by anime standards and pretty close to the 10K mark if I recall and caused the LN to become the second best selling one next to SAO in the year it was released. I don't know where people keep getting this idea that it was a horrible seller or unpopular or something. It's literally just the fact that Sunrise Studio 8 has it's own mammoth franchise in Love Live that is several magnitudes more popular than just about anything else out there right now in the Japanese anime scene and that they don't like doing adaptations anyway if they can avoid it. They were even approached by Dengeki Bunko to do a second season and turned it down so not much that can be done about it. I mean what's the point of doing jobs that primarily benefit someone else's popular IPs when you have your own that you can be pursuing or trying to generate new ones. |

| The main reason Accel World season 2 isn't here yet is because the production studio, Sunrise 7, is apparently currently busy with Love Live (the film of which is coming out this June, I think). That was confirmed at Anime Expo 2014. I'd look forward to any announcements after the Love Live film is released. Also, Love Live makes truckloads more money than anything, so don't get your hopes too high. However, Reki Kawahara (author of AW) did say he'll try to get S2 through, as he really wants another season. |

Kakumeiki Valvrave was another anime by sunrise and the first season only did 6,039 UH HOW IN THE HELL DID IT GET A SECOND SEASON ? ps it was a 2013 anime Jormungand and Valvrave are what they call split-cours, meaning they intentionally divided the series to 2 seasons, so they already have a budget for 2 seasons in the first place unlike Accel World |

It's harder to market something when it gets further into the storyline, which is why you don't see S3 often, even for highly popular series like Haruhi and Index. Now, S2 is slightly different, but it does require a very high popularity. Accel World was far overshadowed by Sword Art Online, which happened to be airing at the same time (unfortunately for Accel World). SAO blasted AW out of the water in terms of viewership. As for Sunrise, they will continue to milk Love Live for as long as they can, and you can pry it out of their cold, dead hands. Love Live has been the biggest money-spinner for them in a while and they're likely not going to "waste time" making S2 of an averagely-appreciated anime. |
| Any news about season 2? I know it has been 4 years so I'm losing hope, but it's not gone yet :) |
