A solid start to this much praised anime. Really good animation, decent music so far. I'm getting a Final Fantasy vibe from the world it's set in. This, I like. I also like the snow-boarding type lifestyle portrayed in the rebel-type group Gekkostate, and Renton's attire and bedroom.

Once you get to Episode 10, things get better and better. Than worse for a short time, well, probably because in some of the scenes I felt really bad for Renton, even though he is such an idiot. Things are plain awesome once you reach Episodes 24-27.

After reading the news about the movie, I decided to start this too. I liked the episode, looking forward to episode 2 I'll watch sometime later today.

Finally got around to starting this, and I've had the show for over a year now. Glad I did, and the movie not being a remake of the series it's perfect timing too.

Great first episode. I'm probably not the first to say so but I can totally understand the Tengen comparisons even at this early stage. Could be the start of something very special then...

I'm currently at episode 14 and enjoyed so far every single piece of the anime. Makes me really wonder why there are people who were bored with the first couple of episodes. oO

[...]but I can totally understand the Tengen comparisons even at this early stage.

Eureka 7 seems to be by far better than Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann, if you ask me that is.

Thats funny because I put the anime on hold at episode 14. The only reason I havent dropped it is because its got awards and praise and stuff, but more importantly I will feel better bashing it in public if I've seen it all than if I've only seen less than half. :D

Eureka 7 seems to be by far better than Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann, if you ask me that is.

Tengen is a million times better in my opinion, because it kicks the mecha genre up the ass and woke it up. Eureka Seven has done its best to put me to sleep. Infact, I would rather watch Shinji from Eva than Renton anyday of the week, and thats saying something! (oO)

Ah well, I'll finish it some day and whether it gets better or not before the end is moot, because an anime that cant make any kind of impact on me after 14 episodes has already failed.

Eureka's storyline is a slowly unfolding one, as the viewer is confronted with lots of unexplained stuff at the first couple of episodes right off the bat. I guess this doesn't appeal to everyone, which could explain why some people dislike it. Also some of the characters act somewhat strange sometimes (mostly holland, though), based on traumatic experiences in their past. I don't think people who aren't into psychologic stuff would like that.
To put it blundly, I have the feeling it's a show for people who like to think about what they're viewing, rather than simply having the urge to be entertained by blindfolded viewing.

I think TTGL is quite the opposite, as it's basically about a bunch of people screaming stuff to act all cool and save the world just like that. I really had a hard to time to get into it at first, since the plot seemed to be rushed too much. Meaning I had some trouble to get the characters' intentions at times, and it took me a while to actually like them. Well, maybe I'm doing unjustice to TTGL - I really gotta view that show again. D:

Eureka Seven's problems are less to do with its story and more to do with its execution. Its just not entertaining or creative enough to make any kind of substantial impact on the genre, after 14 episodes anyway.

Renton's Godawful voice over keeps repeating the same damn thing over and over again, and is never revealing, always stating the obvious. Its audial filler.

I dont want to hear "But it gets good after episode 36!!" type arguments, because thats just insulting.

As you can see from my first post, I went in with a positive attitude but as you can see now I've become a bit soured on the anime 14 episodes in.

TTGL's entire point is the people-screaming-like-maniacs-and-saving-the-universe deal. Its a love letter to the mecha genre, not exactly a profound analysis of the human condition. But it succeeds in what it sets out to do. It wears its heart on its sleeve and isnt trying to be anything other than an enjoyable carefree tale. Eureka Seven's pretentions of being something important, alluding to wars and such, is falling flat for me. Maybe if Renton, his stupid voice over, and other young characters didnt exist, it would gain something, but so far its just a bit too generic for my liking.

I suppose we've gone way off topic though, and should keep to episode 1 discussion.

Well, I don't know much abot the mecha genre in general, thus I can hardly keep up to a conversation about how much the series added up to the genre. I'm more the type who looks for some addictive stories. So yeah, let's lay that discussion aside.

Though I guess you might have started Eureka with expactitions exceeding the anime's horizon, and thus ended up not liking it so far.

It wa a good start, but i've had better. Kid with famous, yet missing, father and eternal love for sibling, who has a dream and hates the world. How original.
The animation is awesome though. The fight in the clouds reminded me of Last Exile.

I shouldn't have returned to the mecha genre with TTGL, because it appears to have spoiled me. I'm enjoying Eureka, however, and the decent first episode bodes well although I hope they don't run the surfing thing into the ground; and I hope the main character grows up fast.

This was better than I thought it was going to be, but to be fair my expectations were set pretty low since it's a BONES produced anime. We shall see if this is finally the show they can impress me with in more ways than only having good animation.

Really enjoyable first episode. The surfing with mechas thing is really cool. I like the protagonist I really know how he feels and we both share the same thoughts. It's almost like the reaction I get from the scene, he gives the same reaction.

Definitely gotta check out the next episode

After about a year of having this on my backlog finally decided to watch.

First episode was pretty decent/good,I guess.

Renton seem quite unlikable/bratty so far, hopefully he'll change within 50 episodes.

The ending seemed like a stupid move his part tbh.I mean what did he expect to happen when he jumped off the cliff?

This be the first 50 episode anime I've ever seen is quite nervewracking, hopefully it won't disappoint and I won't regret watching this.

Also wonder how this will compared to Captain Earth seeing as how there seem to be quite abit of similarities between the two.
