Do you think in the future that it will be more common with a mixture between anime and live action.

In the west, hobbit, lord of the rings and pretty much all fantasy movies have CGI made characters in it which are really "western"

Do you think Japan will do the same and mix classic anime characters into live action?

Kill Bill had a pretty awesome anime scene. Although I doubt Japan will mix anime characters into live action, it would just look out of place. They will of course continue to use CGI.

I don't think it's a good idea. If they wanted to mix live action and anime characters, it would either make the anime characters look out of place or they would change them to look more human (basically we would lose all the traits we love about our moe kawaii lolis)
I'm not a lolicon, you're just projecting your tendency to lewd 2D characters.

If your favourite character is Tsutsukakushi Tsukiko, you are my soul mate.

Been a long time since I've been here, I'll continue expressing myself freely and believe everyone should too.

What does using CGI in filmmaking has to do with that? I highly doubt japan filmmakers aren't already using CGI in a lot of their movies. That's totally different from mixing classical anime characters with live action though. That makes me think of something like Space Jam and I don't think there will be a significant rise in numbers of japanese movies like space jam.
I probably regret this post by now.

Or at least, just anime characters in live-action background

Live-action mixes tended to crop up in late-90s recession-era anime (Gasaraki, Serial Experiments Lain, His & Her Circumstances, etc.) before the Western industry gave Japan a shot in the arm, so I wouldn't want to see things go back that way.

What I like to see is a "Who framed Roger Rabbit" style movie, but with anime.
That would be interesting.

Well, Code Lyoko did this with its last season and it worked to some degree.

It blends live-action with CGI and it also improved the CGI from the original series.

The Looney Tunes have been put in live action before, though never very well. The only good example of what you're talking about is Who Framed Roger Rabbit. It's just a consequence of this ridiculous idea that animation is only for kids and shouldn't be used for 'serious' movies.
Anyone who doesn't hate anime hasn't watched enough anime.

FilthyCasual, have you watched Cool world? It's one I'm quite interested on. I have seen very few of this "animated characters in live action" sub-subgenre (?) thing. Mainly my childhood favorite Space Jam (don't know what I'd do about it today) or a wonderful French short from the 30s called The mascot.

Anyway it would be interesting to bring this idea. Anime characters in a live action background doesn't seem much shocking given how some of them already have photorealistic background designs, but I think I've never seen anything close to anime and live action characters interacting at the same setting.

Films like Twilight of the Cockroaches and The Happiness of the Katakuris were both anime and live action.

Yes, Twilight of the Cockroaches is an excellent example of mixing anime with live action. It's a very interesting approach, I would love to see more experimentation in this field. No way it will become a big thing but it definitely deserves some exploration.

I've been noticing anime getting popular enough that I wouldn't be too surprised if there was going to be an anime movie in theatures, in the west, in the future (non-ghibli).

Literally mixing the two, though, wouldn't work for everything since it'd be so out there like Who Framed Roger Rabbit
