Let's make a very hipothetical exercise. Let's imagine there is a sky, where gods and goddesses live and hug. They have a lot of work, with so many prayers that are dedicated to them and so on. So, two of them decide to go on holiday. They are Jesus and Buddah and, of course, they are going to EXOTIC JAPAN! They rent an apartment and spend there some time, enjoying life and its details.
And thus this movie arrives to us, together with two OVA to get some more will. A light and delicious movie, in which we follow the life of two very special young men.
The story is simple, but is full of little details that are only related to the universe of characters that is presented to us. On one hand, the movie stars, the improbable Jesus and Buddah. Without falling on the ridiculous, on the critic, on the offense: both of them are innocent and well-humoured people, with an unprecedentable friendship relation that is only possible in characters with the inherent mutual compreension and ability to forgive. Without exageratting, little wonders that both of them may have done on their passage through earth appear and make us laugh, because they are very simple, happy and filled with humour. True and honest things, like attaining the nirvana on the rollercoaster or separate the waters in a pool.
But these are not the only elements in the movie. There is also the interaction of these strange people with the inhabitants of the city: the landlady, the kids of the neighbourhood. In this case the movie is also filled with moments that, with childish fun, make us believe in goodness and innocence, prevalent theme through all the visual narrative.
We may think that a movie with slice-of-life characteristics could have an animation below expectativesP. Here happens the exact opposite. The colour pallette is very smooth, filled with light, with a very interesting contrast between scrap moments and beautiful animation, especially in the great fight of the kid against Buddah's third eye. Light and shadow are attained in a very vivid way, with use of the white colour in the characters, an effect that gives us the opportunity to watch the movie with calm and smoothness.
Musically, the same happens. The songs are animated, simple, analogic. When they appear, they make smiles.
This is really an excellent comoedy, for the religious and non religious. Without criticism, without hurting, it shows how two faiths can really coexist: the adventure of Jesus and Buddah in Japan simply appeals to a sense of friendship and peace. Which is really what the world needs, friendship and peace. So, watch this movie. For sure, when you finish it, you'll feel refreshed.
It's a feel-good movie, how can we vote no? :) |
