I prefer Code Geass. Death Note was great and all, but I believe it effectively ended with L's death; every episode after that just seems unneeded. Code Geass, R2 included, held my interest for the shows entirety and I preferred its ending over Death Notes. The fact Light died from someone else's error seems like a copout from the shows creator more than a good plot.

Also, Misa Amana or however you spell the bitches name is a TERRIBLE character and one of the worst in any anime I've seen.

Misa's voice actor, although annoying, was not bad. It was hard to feel for her because her relationship with L wasnt developed. Her character was not developed because her ideas are far removed from those causing Light and L to fight as the world watched. They could have given her a Mitsukiesque feel, however, I think it was important that they didnt. The plot was so good that adding an irrelevant romance would have detracted from it. If they could have forced Light to have a developed relationship with Misa and then crush her with Light revealing he had no interest in her, then it may work but i dont know. Geass like Death Note is marked by a more confusing second part. Death Notes was probably worse, but the series was 37 eps so it has less weight. I loved the ending as the fall of Light was visually stunning. How he lost was not as intricate as most of the plot. If Light had been more cautious he may not have lost. His turn to a completely psycotic radical, obsessed with his own pride and power mostly compelled his downfall. The only thing that Geass truely has over Death Note in my opinion is Leloch's and C.C.'s voice actor, and action/humor to hold interest. Both shows are plot driven as each develops ideals rather than characters and this is done as the characters battle strategically. I simply feel Death Note achieves this at a higher level than Geass.

I just think Death Note would have been far better if Light won.

I enjoyed both of these animes but I preferred Death Note over Code Geass. Despite Code Geass having more action and a few times a slightly more developed plot, Death Note however just showed more realism as far as human behavior; which is why I prefer Death Note over the latter. Again, both have really great plots, and some parts of CG move more smoothly than DN; some of DN’s dialogue and scenes appear to drag on for dear life. After the death of L, I wondered where would the series be taking us, I mean really what would be the point after one of the two figureheads was no longer a threat (not to mention L’s death scene wasn’t nearly as intense as it should’ve been. I expected more of a climax during their final faceoff). Then they went and added Near’s character, a terrible rip-off of L; to me Near left much to be desired, he just came in and we were automatically supposed to accept him as the new L. The voice acting was better with Code Geass, and the only factor that took away from Death Note’s voice acting was Misa, her voice and personality was annoying both in Japanese and English. Again though, I still prefer Death Note for the human responsiveness and relationships. If a Death Note did exist, and someone acted like Kira, you coiuld expect cults to form and sides to be taken. Human emotions and responses intrigue me.

I concur for the most part. However, I remember L's death scene being thrilling and beautiful. I'd have to review it to be sure though.
