Or are they equally important?

It's somewhat more important for me, since it's the first thing i'm gonna see every episode, it should be good, hype me up for the other 21 minutes.

the OP's more important because you're more likely to see it. most people would stop watching once the episode's finished so less would see the ED.

Can be either way or equally. Usually, OP shows more scenes and feels more like the show itself while the ED is like a relaxing ballad (like Zetsuen no Tempest, Noragami, BTOOOM!! or Kiseijuu for example)

Yes, if long runners are anything to go by then you would see that the EDs are switched out more frequently than OPs.

I find the OP to be more important because it usually places you in a certain kind of mindset for the anime following and it also almost always acts as a quick glimpse into what to expect from the anime. EDs on the other hand, I find to be something to wrap up the episode and relieve some of the stress or excitement of waiting for the following week's episode. There also seems to be a hint of foreshadowing in some instances.

Hunter x Hunter 2011 is the best example LOOL

iirc, bleach was like 1 OP for 2 EDs.

OP is much more important to me, because, as others have already said, it sets the tone for the show and hypes me up for what I'm going to watch. EDs on the other hand do not often fit the show in hand, and are there to relax the viewer. And I rarely bother to watch them, unless they are exceptional, such as Turn A Gundam's Moon's Cocoon.

as long as they sound nice i don't really see the problem in listening to both of them. if they don't sound good, i just skip them both altogether or maybe just skip one of them

I do think that the opening is more important. Having said that, a good ending (particularly in long-running shows) helps get me excited for the next episode.

Ending is more interesting though.
If you manage to make a good transition from the end of the show to the ending song. The song gains two points.

I like how Shinsekai Yori never had an opening, and Bakemonogatari had one for every new arc (2-3 episodes)

Endings. I love it when an ending theme is blended into the last few minutes of episodes. Nana did this brilliantly.

Equally. I will listen only to the one which is good anyways. I've never seen an anime having a good OP and ED at the same time. Besides Bleach of course.

If the OP is GitS (movie, TV series), and the ED is Monster's, then yes.

If the OP/ED matter equally for something the anime relies to convey in a particular manner, like Boogie's, then yes.

Another type of usage I loved, were Ef-A Tale of Memories/OP and Nobunaga Conerto/ED, which could be put even in the middle of an episode and won't lose anything of their impact. So, yes.

Otherwise, I'd either like the animation or the song at each end, which ultimately could have nothing to do with the anime, so no, it would be because of my personal bias or because it didn't impress me one bit.

And some OP/ED are rather horrible and are better omitted.

Both are in my opinion but it depends on the show in question. Ultraman Nexus has an awesome OP and ED.

It is more important. The OP gets me hyped up for the show, while with EDs if they're bad I just skip it, or spend that time reviewing the episode I just watched with my friends. EDs are usually bad anyway, since they use slow music and still pictures most of the time.

Unpopular opinion; neither is important. Not to mention they usually contain spoilers. So, I'd rather have a brief review from the previous episode, just to refresh my head when I'm not marathoning.

How about Durarara's opening? Where it blends in what happens last time in the opening of the next episode?

Loved that FMAB ending. One of the best.

OP is really important for me as well. Some OPs just set the mood for the entire anime like Kiri from Ergo Proxy and Tabi no Tochuu for Spice and Wolf.

Some kept my interest in particular anime as well: OP from Noragami, DTB, GIAS.

No, One piece is like 1.5 minute recap then 2.5 minute op, Durarara is 2 min op with recap woven in well. Durarara's style is actually pretty nice.

OP is important for me because of first impression. Ending is something like a bonus.. since for some reason there are so few that I actually like. I usually skip the Endings more than I skip the OPs :/

and I never liked recaps no matter where you put it ><

Yeah pretty much I think.

Though sometimes the ending can give a great finish to the episode.

There are a few endings I like more than the opening, though only by a bit. Psycho Pass, Gintama Ending 17 and Ergo Proxy are some I can name off the top of my head.

I feel like the OP should be more important because I don't stick around for the next episode previews and usually skip ED songs if I don't like 'em. With OPs even though one can skip 'em one just sorta has to go through with it to watch the episode unlike EDs. If I like the ED sometimes I'll let it play, but not always. Like Paradise Kiss' ED. Really memorable. I always sung along and let it play. Meanwhile, I can't even remember it's OP.

It's nice hearing the soothing and relaxing song during Parasyte's ending after hearing that godawful trash by Fear, and Loathing in Las Vegas for the opening.

One Piece consists of opening, general plot, and recap. Yes it's almost 4 minutes. Good thing is the ending is replaced by a short preview for the next episode, guess it's okay though I usually skip preview since it's a bit spoiler-ish to me.

Both are important. The opening is a little more difficult to switch so most of the time you just leave it on. If the end of an anime's episode is sort of emotional or a cliffhanger if the ED's mood contrasts with the ending then it can kinda ruin my mood.

The opening serves to open you up to the episode you are about to watch, as it sets the general tone of the anime and starts to re-immerse you into the anime after the break you get in-between watching two episodes. Endings are less important as they are easily skippable if you don't like the song that goes with it. But, endings can also help to settle you down and parse what you just experienced.

I'd say openings are more important, but endings are still important if made correctly(god the Ao Haru Ride ending is fucking beautiful, and beats the everlasting shit out of its opening).
