| There are anime that are meant to be fun and then there are the more serious ones. My favorite anime for fun is Fairy Tail. While it does have its serious moments, I love the thrilling sensation I get when I watched the characters travel and use their magic to the awesome OST. In fact, this anime produced the exact same exciting sensation I get when playing fantasy RPGs. I moved on to the manga after the first 175 episodes, but I would gladly watch Season 1 of Fairy Tail again. As for my favorite anime that is serious, it is Kino No Tabi: The Beautiful World. I finished the anime recently and I loved how it packed so much ethical discussion in 13 episodes. It really made me think about my own personal ethics and the ethics of certain things in the world. I even have a favorite episode: Land of Books (Nothing is Written). |

If you also don't see Trigun as having serious aspects as well then I don't think it makes sense for me to argue with you about what 'serious' means since our definitions clearly differ. I'll just say that for me Bebop has a bunch of the most hard-hitting episodes (emotionally) I've ever seen so I can't pretend it's just 26 episodes of pure fun and games just because it also excels in that area. |

| Steins;Gate is capable of fulfilling both categories for me. It can be fun as we see the banter between our protagonists, but it can quickly change to something serious that examines the cruelty of time travel. Although we see a radical shift from the slice of life-like first half to the more mature second half, Steins;Gate manages to involve both elements throughout the anime to maintain that fun/serious balance that I find in it. |
