If you were to try to show an anime or manga to a fan who normally watches Naruto and Yu Yu Hakusho, what would you show them?

I would show them this: http://myanimelist.net/anime/3784/Evangelion:_2.0_You_Can_(Not)_Advance

and wait for them to beg some more >=)

Btw what's the diference between seinen and josei?

Seinen is male-oriented, while josei is for females (both 18+, IIRC). However, I wouldn't say the difference between them is as big as between shonen & shojo, thankfully.

I wouldn't call Evangelion seinen. It doesn't really fit the demographic since it's still targeted at tweens.

While I disagree that Evangelion isn't seinen, I can see there's some clichés in the anime that make it look more childish, but that would certainly lure more shonen fans in, right?

Then they can try other, more adult, options. Or not.

Tsukihime (visual novel) is what got me into the amazing world of seinen. I'd show someone who likes Yu Yu Hellsing since both are nice and violent, although Yu Yu's astoundingly superior to Hellsing. I'd show a Naruto fan Bleach and Soul Eater so that they could learn what real shounen is. Chaos;Head's a good idea as well, since it starts out as a seinen but becomes shounen later on, so it'd be a good way to ease someone into the more mature stuff. Anyone who plays Devil May Cry is also immersed in a more mature setting than regular shounen animes; it's dark, but not too much for a starting point. Hell Girl's not a bad idea, either, since it's dark, but not mature. Keeping in mind that a decently large aspect of seinen is sexual, I'd recommend Maburaho, Kamen no Maid Guy, or Rosario + Vampire since they're all typically shounen-level intensity, but with much more ecchi than any shounen I've seen has. Tenjou Tenge is a great idea as well, since it's a mature shounen/light seinen, and Buso Renkin since it's a much more mature shounen. The Fate/Stay Night is a seinen presented in a shounen-esque manner, so that'd work out well. You can never go wrong recommending Code Geass to anyone. If they liked Yu Yu Hakusho, they'd like Rurouni Kenshin (I know it's a shounen). The yandere pwnage of Shion (When They Cry) and Kotonoha Katsura (School Days) are excellent examples of why mature anime is amazing. No one can ever be too old to laugh to death at Seto no Hanayome.

Hello - a couple of shows I recommend:

Berserk - Set in a medieval/fantasy world. It's pretty dark, violent and deals with some mature subject matter. I think the fight/action sequences can be appealing to the Naruto fan (although without the long winded expositions)

Gintama - not really seinen, it does have a lot of slap stick and potty humour. At the same time it has some mature and subtle sex jokes that makes it a weird shounen/seinen show. I thinks its the style of the humour that might appeal to both audiences.

While I definitely went off-topic in my post, I disagree that Hell Girl is a shoujo. By NO means it is a seinen, but I fail to see the target audience being younger girls.

I'd continue to endorse the Ghost in the Shell SAC series followed by the NHK.

Uh, Hell Girl ran in Nakayoshi, a shoujo manga magazine. It most certainly is shoujo.

i think only the manga is shojo on a bigger note i think every manga he put is shonen except hellsing and tenjho tenge

and about the question i think it depends on the person so ill just go with the top rated mangas on mal berserk (my favorate) or 20th century boys you'll probably like one or the other or bolth

If you enjoy Naruto and Yu Yu Hakusho but are looking towards seinen & josei, you obviously like the action, maybe psychological a bit and want something with more depth?

Then Ghost in the Shell or Appleseed mght be to your likings. Both of them deal with cyborgs living with humans, if you're not into that, there's the all time classic Evangelion which I highly recommend.

Manga wise, just go with Berserk, as previously mentionned, the highest rated manga on MAL; can't go wrong with that.
