Wow you beat me too it. I second Shakugan no Shana, Toaru Kagaku no Railgun, and Accel World. And I'll add Kyoukai no Kanata_ not only great art, but also epic action and huge supernatural component.

Kara no Kyoukai fits your criteria perfectly. Of course, it's one of my favourite series so I recommend it regardless, but uh, yeah.
