The hole in the mountain was visible, not only to Ginko, but to regular people too and after a few seconds it disappeared. If anyone understood that part, I would appreciate a reply with the answer. Komyakusuji (River of Life) flows through the mountain, causing unnatural phenomenon, and anomalies in and around the mountain, including changes in the water, fruits etc. Which is why a 'Master' is needed to control the flow of energy, and as Ginko mentions in the beginning, its 'vegetation season' which means higher energies leaking out/from the Komyaku channel. The hole in the mountain is because of leakage of high energy creating that anomaly, or it could also be due to a momentary lapse of control of the master over the mountain probably (as we see that at that time when Ginko see's the hole, the old man is summoning the Kuchinawa). In either case, its the energy from Komyaku/river of life creating that 'anomaly' Bunny_Rukia said: This episode was confusing and left a lot of unanswered questions... Unless I just wasn't paying enough attention. I was wondering why he had to sacrifice himself too. Alfonse said: Why did the master want to sacrifice himself anyways? I never understood that. Did he think that he could not handle the role of guardian? Or did he think his role would disrupt the growth of vegetation? Or was it related somehow to the girl who killed the boar? As for why the master sacrifices himself...he is old and after his death there has to be a master. The kid who he takes up as student could be the next one, but as Ginko mentions, learning the master's technique involves a trial where the subject is infused with mushi that makes up mountain's 'consciousness', and if the person is able to control so much energy from the river of life, and control the mushi, only then he can become a master. It is implied that failing that the person could die as well. At any rate, no chance of living a normal life, and each master needs to have a successor who has to go through the same test and make the same sacrifice for the village. To arrange for a nearly immortal kuchinawa as a master instead of making human beings go through that trouble seems a more humane and sensible option. Not bad but I feel like the stories are weakening with proper content, though this time the ending was really wtf! |

Yeah, the character designs definitely are often alike, I've noticed this. I guess I agree that this was the best episode yet, but what I like the most about it is that is the most magical one in the same time. It kinda reminded me of Mononoke Hime. A bit of Ginko's character got revealed. Not much, but still it was good. |

Awesome episode ^^ Currently working on a list of all the Mushi appearing in the series, I'm wondering how many I'll end up with! |

And at the end of the day he had no choice but to let himself be eaten. Something always difficult to accept with the stories that end like that. Good episode. |

Along with the last episode this added much more depth into Ginko's life as a Mushi-shi, which would add to the main story line I originally missed. Ginko is potraid more relateble with some thing's that are out of his reach or his curiousity leading him to disobey a rule as seen in the last episode. This would be one of my favourite episodes again. @Koreye thanks for the information. Was wondering what that circle was about |

DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE. ---------------------------------------- Boy am I glad I don't see creatures like that one on top of the mountain. Oh, and while I liked this episode, I'm sure if you put many of the characters together, especially the kids, I wouldn't be able to tell them apart... Don't know if that's an issue, but I'm just saying. I was about to write everything you said :) |
