I know a lot of people hate the ecchi genre, harems, bland MC and characters with no emotion. But why do they hate those things.
Ecchi is a genre, and If you don't like that genre, just don't watch it.
Harem is a genre too, so if you don't like, just don't watch it.
Bland Main Characters can be really fitting to story, and if it fits the story why are there haters.
And characters with no emotion. I can understand why people hate them, but if every character is a happy go lucky sugar addict on speed you need to have some variation.
So why all the hate?

I don't hate any of them honestly, I just don't like when a good show abuses with the fanservice, but meh, if the show is good I can endure the pain.

Harem, Bland main characters and emotionless characters are fine, I enjoy most of them honestly.

Ecchi is for shows that aren't trying to take itself too seriously which is fine. But it's obnoxious if it's supposed to be a "good" show and ruins the atmosphere with panty shots. Panty shots are seriously awful and take the viewer out of the show.

Feels like it's been a long time since I've seen a harem. Most are very bland and generic with poor jokes. There's only so many times you can watch someone slip and fall and grab a boob etc and have it still be fresh and funny. When I was new to anime I enjoyed the first harems I watched even if they were shitty. Now I think they're retarded.

Bland main characters are awful. Have a personality. I literally dropped Aldnoah Zero because the character not only made no sense in the first episode, but showed 0% personality like he was an apathetic psycho.

I still wouldn't mind a harem if it toned down the ecchi and was genuinely funny / interesting. But it's usually not. They normally have worse directing, worse writing thus worse dialogue, and are often poor. Basically you have hentai for fapping why bring ridiculous shots into anime? Ecchi can be done properly to add spice, but if the whole show is just an excuse to see each girl nearly naked the maximum number of times why watch the show at all? Just go fap to porn or hentai or w/e and then watch a real show that actually tries to entertain you.

If the characters exchange witty banter it can be pretty fun but I don't know which shows do that since I avoid them nowadays. Most people like the Gatari series and I remember Senjougahara being pretty cool. But I have only seen season 1.

This "don't watch it if you don't like it" retort is pretty dumb since it's telling people that any sort of criticism is prohibited. There is no such thing as a person who watches everything, who enjoys everything; we are all critics to some extent and we are allowed to voice our opinions when something bothers us. The worst thing you can possibly have is an echo chamber.

Yes they can. Bland average or below average looking guys is the intended audience for a lot of harems, with these type of MCs. Wish fulfillment and such.

Not really. It's common sense, that is not so common due to how stupid some people are. There is difference between criticizing something you had no experience with and health-ly voicing your negative opinion about it, and something that you know you are not gonna like, yet you watch it, and complain about it, even though it's pretty easy to just avoid it (i.e the harem and ecchi genre, or a sequel for an anime you hated)

Some people are toxic for the sake of being toxic, and that is all kind of wrong.

Because Wimpy MCs need to go extinct, either have one that likes females, have one that's actually gay and going after a male (the girls in his harem can find out the truth and cheer him on or make him go bi), or have an all female cast in ecchi and harem anime.

You don't have to be lucky-go-lucky, but there are plenty other characters that there can be.
Personally, I don't like ecchi, but there are some good series that I wouldn't wanna miss which have this genre too. If there aren't many scenes I don't mind.
What many people probably don't like in the harem genre, including me, is the mc's attitude (he is usually indecisive, dumb, clumsy or completely ignorant). I can watch this genre from time to time, when I want to watch something different, probably funny or light-hearted.

Ok, I can understand that, but then my question to you is: What do you think of a harem show with a MC who actually chooses the girl he wants to be with, like with Zero no Tsukaime.

OT: i don't understand it either, it's one thing to dislike a series for good reasons, but i don't get why someone would waste time constantly bashing a series. it's easier to just ignore it.

Idk, my signature is just as confused about this.
It's general human psychology to elevate yourself/your ego/your taste by hating and trashtalking other stuff/people, so I don't think it's anime fandom specific (it just gets more intense when fandoms of any kind are involved), but it still pretty sad and to me just makes people seem bitter, frustrated and unhappy with their lives when they spend a lot of time writing toxic comments about shows, fanbases or even individual users/posts.
And it's not about not having any complaints or enjoying everything. It's about making the conscious decision to focus much more on the negative, on the aspects or whole shows you didn't like, instead of the stuff you did enjoy. Some people enjoying talking about their favorites, just reveling in the enjoyment they get out of anime, and others do the complete opposite. They may also enjoy some shows, but when they talk about anime it's just (often unwarranted) complaints, insults, arrogance, ignorance and talking down to others. I can only conclude they are bitter and unhappy people who just want to make the rest of the world as miserable as they are. Not consciously of course (or maybe), but psychologically I don't think it's too far from the truth.

This is more general though and not specifically about harem/ecchi haters. Hate is just too strong a feeling to waste it on a hobby/entertainment so it's always an overreaction, not just for those genres.
I probably regret this post by now.

I sometimes feel like people need to hate something, just for the sake of it.
They do suck though, there's no originality, there's no characters - just cardboard boxes really, repeat jokes, repeat gimmicks, repeat shallow plot, repeat shallow foreshadowing at something more which never comes, repeat shit. Shallow shit, deep shit, all types of shit.

This. I mentioned what genres I hate, and how I don't watch them. I don't consider myself the target audience. There are plenty of people who seem to think of anime as a whole as something that should cater to their every whim at all times. Special snowflakes and spoiled princesses are what they are, I can imagine them all up in a tiara and a tutu smashing their keyboard TAKATAKATAKA all through the night. Just watch what you like and shut up.

If you don't like the genre stay the fuck a way from it then, and stop your complaining.
