I'm glad that they extended the scene of Miyuki's senior league game so that we could see his agressive calls and Chris' own play. It was good to see little Miyuki's house and he cooking his own food (now we know why he's such a good cook), since there's no such scene in the manga. It's also an important episode since it shows the bullying of his teammates and how it affects partially, if not greatly, in his personality... I really liked this episode :D
Same, great episode on Miyuki's background! And I thought the anime additions were really fitting as well. Makes me love Miyuki that much more. And this is why Miyuki is such an awesome guy, he never lets anything get him down. He does he wants and always tries to improve himself. Love how he would rather face a strong opponent than be part of the all-star team. Heh, it's also the reason why Mei likes Miyuki. It's also amazing how he got scouted just in his first year in junior high.
Yes, I also think the additions were very good. I'm really glad that Terajima-sensei agreed to make it canon so now we know (although partially) how is his family situation. It makes this episode even more impactful especially because Miyuki is such a "playful" character. I can say for sure that even though I already liked him, now I've even more reasons to. He faces his problems head on in that easy-going way of him and for that I respect him.
I also liked the parallel they made with Miyuki admitting that both Chris and Takashima-san were the reason why he chose to go to Seido (if I remember correctly there's no such scene in the manga with him admitting it out loud, much less in front of Sawamura), since Miyuki himself is the reason why Sawamura decided to go to Seido as well. They're always inspiring themselves in some way or another (again, Sawamura also admires Chris). It makes me wonder if there will be a day in which someone will decide to go to Seido because Sawamura inspired them...

It also helps that Miyuki's always been one of my(like most of everyone in here) favorite characters. We all know he's a talented player, but this episode made you realize how great of an attitude he has. Seems like as a kid, he was on his own a lot, and that didn't appear to bother him much. Not only that, whether it's taking a loss or having to put up with team Inashiro's smug comments, the guy doesn't let anything bother him. I both admire him and envy him. I wish I had half the attitude he has.
Also loved his first meeting/game with Chris. You can tell how much respect and admiration Miyuki's always had for him, so it was nice to see where it all came from. Chris was a powerhouse, even as a kid.
Just a great episode, and I'm more pumped than ever for the finals. I certainly hope Seido wipes the floor with Inashiro, and also wipes the smug look off Mei's face. I hate that guy.
I'm glad I'm not the only one that don't like Narumiya XD

Anyways, nice episode.
His family background is not shown in the chapter that showed his junior high days or in any other chapter until the present. If I'm correct, Terajima-sensei seem to have tweeted about this in his twitter yesterday so I think it's safe to assume that, yes, it's canon. He must have participated in the making of the script.

Love the talk between Miyuki and Inashiro guys. He was too badass.
And little Chris was cute too! hehe
The part where they showed the factory, Miyuki's house and dad weren't in the manga. Guess that was the part Terajima-sensei tweeted back then. I still wanted to see his parents' faces tho :O
"It doesn't matter as long as baseball remains so fun" was the line I was eager to see. Hoping that there be more feel to it when they animated it. Guess I expected too much.
And the part when those evil seniors called Miyuki a "psycho" wasn't animated either. I'm kinda disappointed that they cut some scenes from the manga.
Oh I also was expecting that line with more of a "serious air" just like he did in episode 18 when he said "If it means making the pitcher shine, I'll do whatever it takes. I'll lie if I have to, and make myself hated if I have to." Because just like in this scene, when he said "It doesn't matter as long as baseball remains so fun" he seemed to have the same resolution.
They kind of censured that bullying part right? Let's be fair, in the manga those bully kids said pretty harsh words to Miyuki and in the next day he was even more beaten up than what was showed, so they sugar-coated it in the anime. |
