Why do Jamaicans not like it when people call them African? They are both black and just as bad off as each other. Do Jamaicans see themselves as superior to Africans? Or are they just racist? Can blacks even be racist to each other?

It's because Jamaica is at Central America a Caribbean island.

I've been to Jamaica with my mother and the people there don't even think much of Africa or African issues however much of their cuisine has some level of African influence to it since Africans were there in the past as pirates, privateers and slaves.

It's just too easy to sweep under the rug by everyone because there are just so many problems and many of them are almost impossible to deal with effectively either by default or because nothing was done early, look at the ebola outbreak, it's spreading like wildfire, if African hospitals were as equipped as a hospital in the early 90's was, it wouldn't have killed so many so fast. There have been a number of chances to improve the hospitals in between conflicts with the latest chance being in 2009.

-smh- All of this is really irrelevant. Seriously.

I am from the Caribbean, and I am of the Indian Descent. And I hate it when people refer to me as being 'Indian'. No, I am not Indian. I am a Guyanese. Indians come from a particular country known as 'India'. I did not. So I can understand why they would get upset. They are of African descent but not from the actual continent known as "Africa'. People really need to start understanding this concept better and stop labelling it as being 'racist'.

Oh I forgot that that's apparently a derogatory term for them?
I meant more in the context of: they aren't even from that continent yet they were named as such. Disregarding the derogatory aspect of it.

So I've heard.
And apparently, according to 'mclovinballz', They dont care. OR rather....we dont care.
But I doubt he speaks for them all. Its also like how they call people who are black and were born in America..'African Americans'. I dont get it. And I perhaps never will. They are ALL Americans. But I guess race means a lot more to them, than anything else. Anyways, back on topic..I guess some of them fought and were killed. So in time, they just grew to accept it. I mean..you clearly cant defend yourself so in order to survive..you adapt..you change. And for them, it was accepting that they were and would become known as 'Indians.' Silly, if you ask me. They look NOTHING like Indians. But ignorance again.

Blame the English language for having ambiguous words in popular use instead of distinguishing both groups like the German language does with "Inder" (people from India) and "Indianer" (native Americans/indigenous peoples of America).

Where do you base your assumption?
Besides, we could ask similar questions about people from every country and the answer would still be dependent on the individual what he or she feels connected to.
Some feel connected to a city or village, some to a country, some to a continent, some to a confederation of states, some to some of the previous mentioned things, some to all of that, some to something else and some to none of all.

btw.: what about the apparently political correct term: American of African origin/ancestry/decent?
Would sound the same as American of European origin/ancestry/decent?

Jamaican, African, Jamaican-American, African-American, Black, who the fuck cares. Some native Jamaicans have African descent, others do not. They get pissed because they care about that correct terminology, mon, and it's not an offense.
