Gaiz, just donate. And while you donate to ALS why not donate to all the other foundations to cure other diseases? Why must ALS be the only one mentioned when there's plenty other just as painful/lethal stuff to deal with? |

haha not done it myself, yet Been doing charity for ALS for years anyway considering my aunt passed away from the disease and it's been a family thing for a long time. I like watching others do it though. I think my own personal favourite was the dude who had 400 gallons of water dumped on him from one of those planes they used to fight forest fires. Moron... |

I run a charity organization which is committed to raising ALS awareness for children K~12. Myself and a group of other noble volunteer's will visit the local schools, and teach kids the importance of ALS by grabbing them one by one, dragging them behind the school building and fully submerging them in a rusty dumpster filled to the brim with ice water for 5~6 minutes. It's really rewarding work, especially when the little guys get all tuckered out from their learning experience, and need to take a nap in the designated nap time area behind the gym. Heck most of the time we go home afterwards and over half of them are too tired to see us off, I wonder sometimes whether the school system is overworking them. |

Dark_Chaos said: Nope. It's a waste of clean water, clean water that kids in other countries could be drinking right now, but cannot. It isn't an unlimited resource that we can abuse and waste as we please. Yeah, it isn't unlimited, but we still flush toilets and shower don't we? The challenge uses less water (a lot less at that). If you care so much and don't want to abuse the limited resource, I advise you not to shower and not to flush your toilet anymore. ReaperCreeper said: Pouring water over yourself doesn't help charity, donating money does. It raises awareness. No one wants to watch someone talk about donating for ALS.org, without the dumping buckets of water onto oneself ALS.org would have not raised much money. Hell, I've never even heard of ALS before this challenge. Xasthur said: Futile exercise. Your wet bodies will not help those who suffer from this syndrome. It seems like a publicity thing more than a charitable thing. Like I just don't get the point of filming yourself getting drenched in cold water. If you really want to help the cause why can't you just donate and be done with it? |

If you really want to help the cause why can't you just donate and be done with it? It's exploitation of narcissism and social pressure to raise awareness. Celebrities do it to raise awareness and publicity reasons but donate money afterwards. The average Joe however does it solely for attention on social media platforms. |

On top of that it's a harmless trend, they're not doing crack or punching babies. That's why they made like 1 million last year and they're over 11 million currently IIRC.It seems like a publicity thing more than a charitable thing. Jump into a hole in a icy river, feel that sudden shock of cold as the air inside your uniform gets pushed up and the water sloshes in, then get up and jog like mad with your boots full of water. Then run five miles with through live mortar fire, wrestle a bear and singlehandedly save the country from a American invasion. And then, lunchtime. You've caught my attention - where are the enlistment papers? |

The point is people are doing this for publicity and it's for a cause that only affect so many, it's an ultimate insult to those that donate to other causes with bigger impact on society such as poverty. |
