Having good character and story isn't just enough for an anime to be memorable. It's got to have that special element that stands out from thousands of other anime to be memorable.

Example? for me it's just Plot and Character that makes anime memorable. sometime soundtrack too.

To name a few shows I've seen as examples: Attack on Titan, Date A Live, Kiniro Mosaic, and Hitsugi no Chaika. They're all shows I've enjoyed watching, but when you ask me whether these shows are memorable, I would have to say no. There is nothing really unique about these shows that I would have to highlight.

It doesn't have to be unique to be memorable. It could be how a show executed particular methods to advance the story or develop characters, for example.

Random thought associations with other persons, places, or things. Although the most memorable are usually the shows I either really liked or really loathed. The mediocre stuff I forget.

A good story of course, which is not run-of-the-mill and characters which are individual and stay in your mind afterwards. An anime should be refreshing, funny, but also serious and should show you something new.

1. Something mindblowing and wtfzomg happens.
2. You invoke emotional response to a certain scene, character, or setting.
3. You cry.

There isn't really much to this topic, all of us are basically going to answer the same thing.

Characters, Story, Music, etc.
They're all the aspects of the anime so of course if they're good, then the anime is good. Of course there is also the emotional reaction towards the anime, but again that is caused if the story has good characters that you are attached to.

The basics; characters, scenery and OSTs, of course.
But things like well-done fights and funny moments. This depends on what genre we're talking about.

An outstanding plot, usually one that manages to surprise me or keep me glued to my seat.
The emotions it invokes, whether sorrow or laughter.
Outstanding characters that have great appearances or lines.
Music to a lesser extent.

Interesting characters. Plot doesn't really matter if you don't care what happens to the characters.

Music being one of the most important aspects.

That's one of the reasons why Angel Beats is one of my favorites.

so you can deal with shitty rushed conclusions as long as the music is good? ...okay

Well in my case AoT is quite memorable from the plot:A naked Titan who appear from nowhere start attacking human because they feel like it. I would never forget about AoT and it's main plot.

Amazing characters and storyline.

Sometimes art and soundtrack as well. For example, 5 cm per second is mostly memorable to me because of the art and OST.

Meaning. If it has good use of symbolism, character development (in most cases, not all), and music, I'll usually find the theme and find the show enjoyable.

Mainly the characters. My favorite series are usually those that made me feel a certain way (shocked, very sad etc.) What can also make it memorable are some quotes and the OST.

Obviously the characters.
I'll also say the OST,but not everytime. Gatchaman Crowds has brilliant OST,but it's bad as a whole.

Characters are a big deal but I find the soundtrack to catch my attention the most.

Example would be Clannad. It's not the greatest anime but Its soundtrack is absolutely god-like. Easily the most memorable anime I've ever seen. The fact that it was my 2nd anime probably adds to that as well.

Shocks, twists, and deaths of long-term characters.

Also, if it had stuff that made you laugh, made you cry, and everything inbetween.

It's usually a specific scene or a specific character, an awesome OST, or the "mind-fuck" moments you get from some of the psychological shows :3.
